Moon JB-5C (BT/R CR)

This 5-string JB bass offers a rich, harmonically resonant passive tone characteristic of the traditional JB style.

MOON is a long-established Japanese component brand known for being used by many musicians both in Japan and abroad. Not only are they popular with long-time fans, but they are also well-regarded by young bassists looking to step up their game, and the brand produces high-quality basses that are widely supported. This particular model is a classic JB-style model with an orthodox alder body, maple neck, and rosewood fingerboard. It is a user-friendly instrument that produces a stylish sound, resulting from the exquisite craftsmanship that reflects the spirit of Made in Japan.

This instrument is a quintessential passive JB 5-string bass, embodying the traditional sound that everyone associates with electric basses. Featuring a 34-inch scale and an all-nitrocellulose lacquer finish, this instrument delivers a sound that leaves no room for compromise, faithfully reproducing the rich tone and resonance inherent in the instrument itself. The tone quality, elasticity, and attack are so pronounced that it could be described as a 5-string bass that's an extension of a 4-string bass, and this is clearly felt even in the low B note. Its rich, full, and sweet tone is incredibly pleasing to the ear.

Furthermore, while maintaining a basic style, this instrument fully embodies the essence of MOON, delivering a smooth and straightforward attack, followed by a powerful yet tight and well-defined, high-quality sound, just as expected. It boasts a rich, sweet midrange, making it easy to play in any style, from fingerstyle to slap and pick playing. With a fast attack and a condensed, detailed tone, the bass is full of harmonics and retains its core, making it a valuable asset in an ensemble. It's easy to overlook, but unlike many vintage-style JB models, it features an extended 21-fret design, which not only changes the range but also alters the nuance of slap bass techniques, and some bassists deliberately prefer this configuration.

Because it's a standard specification designed for greater peace of mind and long-term use, we wanted to be particular about the quality. With an ultra-thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish, this bass is finished in a way that allows the deep, warm tonewood's natural resonance to develop together with the player, making it a joy to play. Furthermore, this instrument is equipped with the "HYG custom-made pickup," which is the successor to Moon's original OXISALIS pickup. In addition to a wide range that reproduces even the low B string without distortion, it outputs excellent response and a core tone. The expressive nuances are also a great pleasure of a high-quality passive bass. And all this in a 5-string bass. This brand is becoming increasingly rare to find new in the market these days. Please take this opportunity to experience the "essence" of this long-established Japanese brand.
