The BECOS CompIQ STELLA Pro Compressor MkII is an evolved compact compressor pedal that incorporates features typically found only in expensive, large studio rack units. It supports professional audio dynamic processing and produces musical, clear tones thanks to its analog circuitry.

First, the pedal has two compression modes: feedforward compression and feedback compression, which can be selected with the FEED switch. Feedforward mode applies compression that prioritizes speed and precision to the signal before the VCA of the input signal. Classic feedback compression uses the signal after the VCA of the audio signal, providing a smooth response that is suitable for leveling out the dynamics of your performance. Feedback mode is excellent at low to medium compression levels, but may not be suitable if you want to set a high RATIO. However, by adjusting the THRESHOLD, setting KNEE to hard, setting a high RATIO and fast TIMING, and boosting the SCF signal, you can make it function as a true feedback limiter.

The RATIO, THRESHOLD, and GAIN controls are essential for a professional compressor. The MIX control allows you to blend the dry signal with the compressed sound to create a more natural effect.

Furthermore, the sidechain filter (SCF) has also been upgraded. The sidechain function, equipped with a low-cut/boost filter (±12dB @ 90Hz, 12dB/octave) controlled by the LO SCF knob, allows for ideal adjustment of the compressor's operation. Cutting the low frequencies of the sidechain causes the compressor to operate in the frequency range that is actually noticeable in terms of tone, rather than the low frequencies with large amplitude. Conversely, boosting the low frequencies increases the compressor's sensitivity, allowing it to be applied to sounds with low signal levels.
The HI SCF knob provides a high-cut/boost filter (±7dB @ 3kHz, 12dB/octave) for further balance adjustment. Cutting the high frequencies avoids excessive compression and maintains brightness. Boosting the high frequencies causes the compressor to respond to high-frequency activity, which is suitable for bright-sounding instruments.
The sidechain filter does not affect the actual tone, but it allows you to adjust the strength and balance of the compression.

This pedal compressor features a KNEE switch, a feature not commonly found on pedal-type compressors, allowing you to switch the intensity of the compression between Hard and Soft.
Setting it to S (Soft Knee) provides transparent, light compression. Setting the THRESHOLD higher allows it to function like a mastering tool, applying only minimal compression.
In the H (Hard Knee) setting, a compressor effect is clearly applied. This can stabilize the output of techniques such as chicken picking and bass slap. By setting the RATIO and THRESHOLD high in the Hard Knee setting, it can be used as a limiter or sustainer pedal.

Furthermore, it features a tilt EQ that allows for instant correction of tonal differences caused by different environments. The frequency of this equalizer can be switched between H (1kHz/for guitar) and L (330Hz/for bass) using the EQ PIVOT.

The TIMING switch toggles between auto-attack and auto-release timing. It allows you to switch between F (Fast) and S (Slow), affecting both attack and release timing. F mode creates a crisp, punchy, modern sound. Combining fast timing with a hard knee approaches a limiter-like effect. This is the optimal setting when using a parallel Blend (New York style). Slow timing is suitable for basslines and arpeggios. Furthermore, setting it to M (Manual) allows you to freely adjust the attack and release times using the ATTACK and RELEASE knobs.

It's far from over.
The CompIQ STELLA Pro Compressor MkII features two internal DIP switches for selecting voicing. These settings subtly alter the internal dynamic frequency processing, allowing for a slight coloration of the sound. The Spark (A - on, B - off) setting adds a refined sparkle to the highs, while the Tight (A - off, B - on) setting slightly cuts the mids to add depth. The Punch (A - on, B - on) setting is the default, providing a tube-like tone with velvety lows and warm highs, while OFF (A - off, B - off) offers the most transparent tone.


There are some minor scratches from normal use, but it is in perfect working order.
