With the modern music scene in mind, and based on the concept of "the ultimate bolt-on passive pickup," the BBP34 is a renewed flagship model made in Japan by Yamaha, combining the latest technology, unique structure, and craftsmanship, and manufactured by skilled artisans, bringing together the know-how from numerous technological research and product development projects.
This successor to the BB2000 series features a redesigned, smaller body while maintaining the familiar silhouette. It employs a three-layer laminated body construction of alder/maple/alder, resulting in a stronger, more durable instrument with a punchy, crisp sound. Furthermore, it incorporates the proprietary "IRA" treatment, which enhances the instrument's vibration, improving the sound transmission and vibration efficiency of the wood itself. This enhances the extension of mid-low frequencies and speeds up the attack and decay of high frequencies, resulting in a smooth, deep tone. The neck is a refined 5-piece laminated neck combining maple and mahogany, with a slimmer grip shape compared to the BB2000 series, and features a rosewood fingerboard. The headstock shape has also been redesigned to match the smaller body size, and lightweight tuners are used to maintain optimal body balance. The overall silhouette of the instrument is slimmer, resulting in an even more comfortable fit.
The neck joint features a 6-bolt miter joint, adopted from the ATTITUDE LTD III (Billy Sheehan model), where bolts are driven in at a 45-degree angle towards the neck for a stronger bond and a powerful resonance where the neck and body are one unit. It also features a miter stringing bridge, where the strings pass through the back of the body at a 45-degree angle from the bridge saddle, reducing string stress while firmly transmitting string vibrations to the body. These unique design technologies and structures further enhance the rich resonance of the instrument.
The newly designed pickups underwent extensive testing with the new BB during the development phase, involving over 100 prototypes. Through trial and error with wires, magnets, rotation speed, and bobbin shape, the result is a high-grade Alnico 5 magnet PJ pickup that delivers vintage tone while improving output. The cylindrical pole pieces reduce noise, and the pickup cover features a versatile design that allows for customization. The control section has been changed from a pickup selector to a 2-volume/1-tone configuration, allowing for fine-tuning of each pickup's balance.
This particular instrument is one of the first models to feature satin-finish parts, as seen at the time of its initial release. While there are some minor scratches, there is no significant cosmetic damage, and it remains in relatively good condition. There are no issues with the truss rod, fret wear, or electronics, and it is in a condition that allows for many more years of use. Don't miss this rare used example of a popular model.
