Descripción

Hofner, which sold its first violin in Germany in 1887, has grown into a manufacturer producing violins as well as orchestral string instruments such as violas, cellos, and double basses. As the music scene has changed, electric guitars and basses have been added to their lineup, and their instruments are used by world-renowned artists and continue to be loved around the world.

This latest arrival is a model '500/1' bass, widely known as the "violin bass," believed to have been shipped in the late 1960s. As you can see, this is a rare specification with enhanced controls.

【body】
The overall weight is approximately 2.35 kg. The body is made of spruce top and maple sides and back, with a hollow archtop body approximately 11 inches wide and 2 inches thick. The attractive sunburst color is well-suited to the violin shape. There is some weather checking, scratches, and tarnishing on the metal parts, mainly on the body top, but it is in relatively good condition while still retaining the charm of a vintage instrument.

【neck】
The neck is made of two-piece maple. The fingerboard is made of rosewood. The headstock logo is a gold decal type. There are some wood joints, weather checking on the back of the headstock, and some dents with minor paint chipping, but like the body, it is in relatively good condition. The tuners are well-functioning with little variation in winding. The frets appear to have been replaced once, but have been leveled and adjusted by our shop, maintaining excellent neck condition and playability. The nut width is 40.2mm. It features a relatively thick and solid neck shape.

[Electrical System]
The controls are unique, consisting of a 3-way pickup selector, a sound mix ON/OFF switch, a sound mix control, two frequency mix ON/OFF switches, a master tone control, and a master volume control. The SOUND MIX function is a subtle filter effect. The guitar is equipped with two "Bar Blade" pickups, also known as sharkfin pickups, which have been standard equipment since 1967.

The instrument itself has excellent natural resonance, allowing you to fully enjoy that unique woody sound when plugged in, and its rare specification that also lets you enjoy funky filter tones is a major attraction.

*Currently, the setup uses Pyramid strings.
