Just thinking about this wonderfully unstable sound fills us with nostalgia. Nostalgia is a word that captures everything that chorus evokes in us—movement, longing, imperfection. A few years ago, we released Trugbild, which was a digitally controlled analog chorus with a captivating Lo-Fi twist. Nostalgia carries on that spirit, inviting us into a deeper, wider, and stranger world. It's like remembering the same dream through different lenses.
The modulation palette offers far greater expandability than ever before. Rich sine and triangle waves are fused with ramps, squares, and random modulation, allowing for subtle, surreal, and utterly captivating transformations. Classic textures shimmer alongside unpredictable, tape-warp-like chaos. Furthermore, tap tempo control and a digital LFO sweepable from 40 milliseconds to 20 seconds allow you to manipulate every sound with ease, from gentle, seasickness-like pitch bends to modulations close to ring modulation.
Mix controls the balance between realism and memory. Pushing it towards the wet side creates a swirling, shattered, immersive modulation. Pulling it back gives a subtle spaciousness, like a voice coming from another room. It's perfect for parallel textures and blending shimmer with dry tones.
The Warp control isn't just a knob; it's a temporal manipulation. Turn it and unwind the reel. At low settings, the movement is subtle, like a warped record spinning in a candlelit room, gently fluttering about. But as you increase the delay time, you push it beyond its limits. Modulation deepens, cycles stretch, and pitch bends become psychedelically altered. The sound becomes liquefied, stretched, and swirling with surreal technicolor, like taking LSD at Woodstock.
The Fidelity knob gives erosion a musical edge. Lower the level and the tone vanishes into dust. The roll-off of highs and lows, the subtle saturation, and the soft decay of analog degradation evoke worn-out cassette tapes, dusty records, and forgotten bootlegs. Setting it higher brings back a clarity that revives memories. Imperfect, yet not lost.
The level control isn't just about gain adjustment; it's about expressive headroom. You can amplify a degraded signal, drive your amp or the next pedal with a boosted/modulated tone, or create a sound that cuts through the mist.
Nostalgia was created for artists who understand that imperfection is not a flaw, but a part of who they are. It resides in the cracks, tremors, and fading echoes of your favorite songs. When you score the sounds of loss, love, or boundaries, this palette is for you.
