The True Historic series is the ultimate vintage reissue, with a revised production process and parts used to create an even more realistic finish. Manufactured and managed by a team of approximately 15 specialists, led by Edwin Wilson, each instrument undergoes an extremely meticulous production process. The team selects the wood for everything from the maple top to the mahogany back and neck, and the rosewood fingerboard, and maintains high quality control by limiting the annual production volume.
Furthermore, the manufacturing process has been significantly revised, and the most notable change is the top carving. In the conventional Historic Collection, rough carving was performed with a CNC router, followed by smoothing with a belt sander. However, the True Historic employs double carving. The body, with the top and back glued together with hide glue, is rough carved with a CNC router, and then binding is applied to the body. After that, carving is performed again with a CNC router, and finally, the final shaping is done by hand sanding. This double carving makes it possible to reproduce the scanned top curve shape as realistically as possible, recreating a realistic top arch, even down to the deep curve near the toggle switch. This double carving process is also used for neck shaping. In the neck shaping process, a rolled neck process is applied to smooth the sides of the neck, allowing you to experience smoother fingering that feels just like a vintage guitar.
Furthermore, the parts have been revised for the True Historic series. Vintage original parts were obtained from the Gibson Custom Shop, and boldly cut up to analyze the materials and manufacturing methods, resulting in a thorough reproduction of not only the shape but also the texture. From the number of plies of the ABS resin parts of the pickguard, jack plate, and SW plate, to the escutcheon which the screw hole shape and raw material on the back have been reproduced, to the control knobs which use brass powder, and to the pickup cover which reproduces the randomness of the pole piece holes, every detail has been refined, resulting in a finish that will satisfy even the most discerning vintage fans! The painting process has also been changed to make the paint thinner and the top curve appear more three-dimensional. After machine buffing, the final step is hand buffing to intentionally leave polishing marks like those of the original, reproducing an even higher level of texture.
