■ Classic BluesBreaker circuit
A while back, before Marshall released a reissue of their iconic BluesBreaker pedal, we introduced the first version of the BBlues One (the mk1 or 3-knob version). Our first version aimed to faithfully recreate the legendary circuit, which was very expensive at the time and had never been officially reissued, incorporating both its strengths and weaknesses. It also featured the ability to switch between two historic versions of the circuit: an early and a late version.
In this new version (mk2 or 4-knob version), we've completely redesigned the BluesBreaker circuit to address the shortcomings of the original '90s pedal and added new controls for increased versatility. Despite these upgrades, BBlues One retains the soul and original tone of the classic design.
■ John Mayer and Continuum Tone (Our Inspiration)
John Mayer and his album Continuum are known for the tones he uses with his Two Rock amps, Black One Strat, and Marshall BluesBreaker pedal.
It's an almost clean, bell-like tone that's simple yet difficult to replicate. BluesBreaker pedals can deliver that signature Gravity tone, but it can be really hard to achieve, depending on variables like pickup aggressiveness and amp brightness.
Inspired by the tone of Mayer, the BBlues One offers a wide range of sounds and applications. Whether you're looking for an ultra-bright, sharp tone or a rich, dark, full-bodied sound, this pedal has it all. It's versatile enough to satisfy any bass player.
Details of each part
As mentioned above, the BluesBreaker circuit has been completely redesigned.
Here's what's new:
Noise Filter and True Bypass
Improved noise filtering and true bypass soft switching system added.
■Voltage input
The BBlues One can be connected to either 9V or 18VDC.
The difference is subtle, but running at 18VDC gives you more headroom.
■Volume Control
The BBlues One features a new VOLUME system that provides enough volume to double as a booster: at 12 o'clock you get the bass volume of the unit with additional headroom for boosting amps or other pedals.
Presence Knob
This new control emphasizes the high frequencies, and the native TONE knob and three toggle switches allow you to fine-tune the EQ. PRESENCE is set to 0%, which is the pure BluesBreaker sound.
■BRIGHT Switch
It used to be called EARLY/LATER, but now it says BRIGHT.
EARLY (bottom): Emulates the early 90s BluesBreaker mk1 unit with less brightness and gain for a sweeter, less aggressive tone. Ideal for Meyer-style clean tones.
LATER (top): Reflects mid-90s modifications, delivering a brighter, more aggressive tone with increased punch and gain.
■SMOOTH Switch
This new switch adjusts the signal clipping, resulting in a rounded wave with softened high frequencies.
Off (bottom): Genuine BluesBreaker sound.
On (top): Emphasizes the midrange, creating a more velvety tone.
■DEEP Switch
Changes the feedback filter to increase the bass, making the amp sound bigger and deeper.
Off (bottom): Genuine BluesBreaker sound.
On (up): Adds depth to the tone.
