"BLACK SMOKER" is a handmade brand from BLACK CLOUD, a workshop in Nagano Prefecture, a mecca for musical instrument manufacturing with many brands. Already a hot topic among many professional musicians for its sophisticated and high-quality sound, playability, and looks, this brand is a collaboration between representative Kuroiwa, who has been involved in the design and manufacturing of numerous manufacturers and models, and young builder Yanagisawa, who co-creates the brand.
This cost-effective standard model has enjoyed consistent popularity since the brand's inception. Its simple, classic specs allow you to fully appreciate the brand's true value, with custom accents added for practicality and individuality. While the basic specs are based on an alder body, maple neck, and rosewood fingerboard, with a 60s JB, you'll immediately notice with just one note that the materials used were carefully selected. The neck shape is slim for ease of playability, yet retains the core of the sound. The original pickups accurately reproduce the body's resonance while producing a full, rich sound. The smooth setup allows for effortless playing, making this a bass that directly conveys the instrument's "quality of construction."
The mini-switch for switching between series and parallel pickups isn't gimmicky with an excessive boost, but rather delivers a solid, usable sound in either position. Furthermore, starting with this model, the 5-string model now features a slightly longer 34.5-inch (876mm) neck, further improving intonation and separation at the lower frets while achieving a new setting that feels almost natural when playing. The 21-fret 5-string tuning machines, a standard feature in the Standard Series, are still in place, providing a rich resonance without excessive peaking, making this guitar suitable for any style of playing, regardless of genre or sound, depending on the settings and playing style.
While the TradMaster models that have dominated the market in recent years have a lacquer and aged finish, this standard model uses a urethane finish. While the build quality is identical, it offers excellent value for money. This bass doesn't assert its individuality with treble attack or excessive power, but rather has a distinctive, "clear" sound that stands out when blended with other parts in an ensemble. This is the kind of model the modern scene has truly been looking for.
Due to the limited production numbers, this bass is handmade, and despite being a highly sought-after brand, there are very few units available. Professionals have recognized this bass for both its playability and sound. Experience the quality that has already made a name for itself in the bass world.
