A special j.Custom was produced to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Ikebe Musical Instruments.

Based on the concept of "using carefully selected materials and assembled by some of Japan's most skilled craftsmen, always pursuing high playability and superior sound," the Ibanez j.custom series, the pinnacle of Ibanez guitars, has captivated many guitarists with its high precision made in Japan and beautifully crafted details. This time, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Ikebe Musical Instruments, a special edition j.Custom has been produced.

The basic specifications of this model, "IKRG85271," are based on the specifications of the j.Custom 7-string model "RG8527," which has an HH pickup layout. However, it was ordered with specifications not found in the regular lineup, such as the top wood, and was completed with special specifications befitting an anniversary model.

The body top is made of burl maple. Burl refers to a knot in the wood, and as the name suggests, burl wood, taken from the knot, creates a unique pattern, allowing you to enjoy the beauty of natural patterns created by nature.
The body back, which is paired with the top, is made of mahogany, producing a fat sound with rich mid-low frequencies.
Unlike typical side-jack guitars, the woodworking around the jack where the shield cable plug is inserted is carved out from the strap pin direction towards the inside of the body. This design allows the cable to be secured to the strap and routed in a way that prevents it from accidentally coming loose.

The neck material is the same as the base RG8527, using a 5-piece neck made of maple and wenge wood.
The fretboard is made of Makassar ebony, which is hard, has excellent attack response and tonal characteristics, and is characterized by its vertical striped pattern. The fretboard inlays are decorated with the Tree of Life position inlays that are symbolic of J.Custom.

The guitar is equipped with a PAF7 pickup, which is a 7-string version of DiMarzio's classic PAF pickup.
These pickups are reminiscent of classic humbuckers from the late 1950s, offering a clear, low-power sound characterized by mild highs, clear lows, and an open, warm tone.

The bridge features the Lo-Pro Edge 7, an original tremolo system that boasts an extremely low-profile design.
By designing the unit to be as low as possible and positioning the fine tuner at the rear, the possibility of accidentally hitting it and throwing the tuning out of whack while playing is minimized.

The j.Custom's attention to detail is evident in the selection of parts, such as the use of GOTOH machine heads, which are highly regarded by guitarists worldwide for their smooth operation, reliability, and durability, and Switchcraft pipe jacks, which are known for their robust construction and minimal trouble.
Furthermore, the parts are unified with gold hardware, giving it a luxurious look.

While control knobs are typically recessed into the top surface of the body to improve tremolo arm operation, this model features a design without recessing, allowing for easy replacement with aftermarket control knobs.
While the operability is inferior compared to models with recessed controls, the increased number of compatible control knobs expands your options for swapping them out with your preferred ones, or for situations where you urgently need a replacement knob due to damage.


This is a top-of-the-line Ibanez model specially produced to commemorate Ikebe's 50th anniversary, and is a strictly limited edition model with only a small number of units produced.
