Description
Description
This time, we have a pre-CBS Clay Dot guitar from 1964. It has a well-worn, battle-hardened feel.
【body】
The overall weight is approximately 3.8 kg. The body is made of alder. A three-tone sunburst finish with a moderately deep yellow inner base adds a vibrant touch. It has been well-used, with paint chipping and scratches creating a wonderful finish. There is overall weather checking, paint chipping from the belt buckle on the back, paint chipping around the elbow contour, associated black touch-ups, dents, and other scratches, shrinkage and cracks on the pickguard due to aging, and rust and dullness on the metal parts. However, the paint itself retains its luster, giving it the appearance of a vintage instrument. Metal covers, which are often missing, are included.
【neck】
The neck is made of maple. The fingerboard is made of excellent rosewood. There's light weathering on the headstock, scratches around the headstock and neck, and the back of the neck shows signs of wear typical of vintage instruments, but like the body, it's in excellent condition. The tuners are the reverse-winding style of the era, and while there's some inconsistency in the winding, they still function well. The frets and nut show some wear, but there's no noticeable choking or choking. The headstock is 15.6mm thick. The nut width is 44.0mm. The neck profile is wide and has just the right amount of thickness.
[Electrical system]
The controls are standard P-bass wiring (master volume/master tone). The pickups are black bobbins, a tradition dating back to the slab era, and the controls, including the pickups, are in pristine condition. The excellent wood from the early 1960s, combined with the black bobbin pickups with a solid mid-low range typical of this period, produce a thick, resilient bottom end and a forward-thrusting midrange. Turning the tone down emphasizes the woody, warm nuances, while turning it all the way up provides a pleasant, crisp attack and clear sound. Despite its relatively lightweight construction, this guitar delivers a dense bass and rich harmonic range.
