Description
We have a Ludwig & Ludwig solid maple snare drum in stock, believed to have been manufactured in the 1930s!
This is a "Pioneer" wood-shell snare drum that is believed to have been manufactured around the 1930s (1928-40).
The standard specification was a solid mahogany shell, but the catalog at the time stated that maple shells could also be ordered as a special specification.
This snare drum is made of solid maple with a maple reinforcement shell.
This is believed to be an extremely rare model manufactured to order.
The hoops have been replaced with 1.6mm thick steel triple flange hoops instead of the original single flange hoops.
The shell edge is rounded, providing a gentle, smooth attack.
It has the fast and tight response you expect from a shallow body, but the 6-tension specification means the sound isn't too tight, giving you a natural touch.
The wood shell, which is nearly 100 years old, has a dry, crisp, and rustic sound.
The main body weighs approximately 2.4 kg, making it lightweight and easy to carry, making it the perfect snare drum for acoustic sessions such as jazz.
