Description
Description
Founded in 1883, Gretsch has supplied a wide range of musical instruments since then, and in the 1950s began developing electric guitars, and continues to produce attractive guitars today.
Production of the 6128 Duo Jet began in 1953, and it was released as a solid-body model in 1954. Featuring a 13-1/2-inch (342.9mm) wide, 2-inch (50.8mm) thick mahogany body and a 24-1/2-inch (622.3mm) scale length mahogany set neck, this model is famously said to have competed with the solid-body models from G and F companies at the time.
The guitar we are introducing today was shipped around 1955 and is in well-tuned player condition.
【body】
The overall weight is approximately 3.5 kg. The body is a familiar design, with a black nitron-coated maple-based laminate top and a one-piece chambered mahogany construction. The B-3 Bigsby is equipped with the original fixed arm (a replacement adjustable arm bar is included). The control knobs are the original design without the arrow logo. Although there is paint peeling on the outer edge of the body back and from a belt buckle, and scratches on the top surface, the body binding has been repaired and the guitar is in fairly good condition considering its age. The pickguard has been replaced with a new one of the same type.
【neck】
The neck is made of mahogany. The fingerboard is made of rosewood with beautiful grain. The neck binding has been repaired and the neck has been reset, resulting in excellent playability. During the neck reset, there was an overcoat applied to the back of the neck, some paint chipping and minor dents on the back of the neck, and some weathering on the headstock, but like the body, the guitar is in excellent condition. The tuners are Waverly open-back and function well with little variation in winding. The frets and nut have been replaced, with minimal wear and excellent playability. The position marks, which tend to shrink over time, have also been replaced. The nut width is 43.5mm. The neck features a sturdy shape.
[Electrical system]
The controls are the traditional Jet electrics of the early model: a 3-way pickup selector, master volume, two volume controls, and master tone. The pickups are the original DeArmond Dynasonics, and the height adjustment spacers under the pickups have been replaced. The Dynasonic pickups of this era sound fantastic, and the high-quality wood base, hollow body construction, and sturdy neck shape combine to produce a rich, lustrous tone.
