Description
Yamaha has been developing a wide range of original, distinctive models since the dawn of Japanese guitar production in the 1960s. In particular, since the 1970s, they have produced hit models such as the SG and BB, earning high praise both domestically and internationally, especially among fans of Japanese vintage guitars.
This is the "SB-2" manufactured around 1966, the brand's first electric bass, which debuted that year.
【body】
The overall weight is approximately 4.1 kg. It features a body shape reminiscent of a bass-sized remake of the SG-2, which debuted in the same year. Signs of age are evident, including burnt and discolored pickguard, scratches and dents throughout, and dullness on metal parts. The mute mechanism, bridge cover screws, and finger rest are missing, and the balancer knob has been replaced.

The sharply angled headstock, inherited from the SG model, features a cursive Yamaha logo, sure to appeal to enthusiasts. The tuners, characterized by their large knobs, are inconsistent in tightness but still function properly. The frets show noticeable wear and a fairly low, rough sound in some areas, but there is no significant buzzing or clogging. The nut width is approximately 42.0mm. The neck features a rounded shape that thickens steadily toward the end. There is a small chip in the hole for the bridge cover screw.
[Electrical system]
The controls consist of one volume, one tone, and a pickup balancer. The balancer allows you to seamlessly adjust the pickup mix. The fully open position of the pot selects the bridge pickup, and the fully closed position selects the neck pickup. While not overpowering, the tone is warm and solid, which is appealing.
