★Fairchild 660 A new frontier in compressors. Developed in collaboration with Abbey Road Studios.

The RS660 is a transformer-balanced vacuum tube compressor/limiter.
It is also possible to link two units together in a mono configuration.

EMI Abbey Road Studios and Chandler Limited have expanded the essence of the historic Fairchild 660 compressor into one of the most sophisticated analogue compressors available today. Combining the technical advantages of the EMI RS124, the RS660 delivers classic sound and the flexibility to control a wide range of dynamic sources.

Since the Fairchild 660 compressor was first installed at EMI's Abbey Road Studios in 1964, it has been used on most of The Beatles' vocal and drum recordings. The Fairchild 660, with its distinctive sound and responsiveness, offers a different feel than the stereo 670. The Fairchild 660's sound gives vocals a special presence, and the upturned cymbals of Ringo's drums still ring fresh in my ears today.

The RS660 is the official outboard gear of EMI/Abbey Road Studios in the UK, evolving the Fairchild 660-style analog sound for a new generation of recording, mixing, and mastering engineers.

- RS660 is mono (two units can be linked)
- Built-in power supply (external PSU-1 not required)

The RS660 is a Fairchild 660-style compressor jointly developed by legendary British recording studio Abbey Road Studios and American company Chandler Limited. Professionals with an intimate knowledge of sound pondered the ideal vintage compressor for the modern era, and the result was a fusion of the superior technology of the RS124, a reproduction of a historic compressor, with the vintage design of the Fairchild 660. This exquisite compressor was meticulously tuned over a period of three years.

"The initial concept for this unit was decided quickly. I spent several weeks circling the idea of creating a 6386 unit with EMI roots. I wanted to do everything the 660 could do and more, but more efficiently. The initial design was completed in two days, but over the next three years I have refined it to a design that is not only great sounding, but also simple, powerful and easy to use."
--- Wade Goake (Chandler Limited)

Superb compression using 6386 tubes.

A new generation vintage sound tuned over three years by Wade Goake of Chandler Limited.

Chandler Limited founder and chief engineer, Wade Goeke, spent three years perfecting the classic 660 sound in a modern unit. The three-tube RS660 compressor is more efficient than the 11-tube Fairchild 660 and meticulously tuned for the ultimate analog sound and response. The newly manufactured 6386 tubes offer significant gain, compression, and tone characteristics, so an entire year of design work was dedicated to tuning them alone.

Equipped with THD mode that adds only the rich overtones of analog.

The RS660 not only provides superb compression with its limiter/compressor, but also features a THD mode that adds rich harmonics. By opening the limiter circuit threshold, you can obtain smooth, pleasant harmonics accompanied by a high-frequency bump.

"We've been testing prototypes of the RS660 on many sessions at Abbey Road Studios and are thrilled to finally be able to release this beautiful little powerhouse. This compressor is a unique beast, but not aggressive; it's very smooth and a little funky. I particularly love the THD mode, which can add subtle harmonics to vocals and synths. This addition to the RS family feels like a natural evolution of the Abbey Road Studios and Chandler limited sound. Inspired by Amp Room's legendary original '60s technical notes, this unit feels like an homage to where they took the Abbey Road compression sound next."
