■Product Overview: True Greatness
The M 49, released in 1951, revolutionized studio technology with its continuously switchable polar patterns via a remote switch, but also with its exceptionally silky, deep sound that has left its mark on countless recordings to this day. The M 49 V, a long-awaited reissue of the M 49, is a microphone that reproduces the specifications of the original, and is much-anticipated by many users.
・The origin of the ultimate microphone
The M 49 is a superb microphone in every sense. A striking, avant-garde form and unparalleled sound. Thanks to its revolutionary technology, the M 49 sets entirely new standards. The M 49 is a true Neumann legend.
A microphone that has it all. Our goal was ambitious. In the early 1950s, in collaboration with the Nordwestdeutscher Rundfunk (Southwest German Radio Symphony Orchestra), we set out to develop a new reference microphone to replace the existing ones. The resulting M 49 allowed for continuous remote control of polar patterns via the power supply, rather than the traditional method of changing the capsule. With a well-balanced frequency response in omnidirectional, cardioid, figure-8, or intermediate settings, it was a truly universal microphone. It was capable of recording all types of music, including orchestras, piano, trumpet, and vocals, to the highest standards. This is why the M 49 remains beloved today. It was also Neumann's longest-running production, from 1951 to 1971, during the heyday of the vacuum tube. From cool jazz to trendy pop, the M 49 has brought elegant sound to countless legendary recordings. It's no exaggeration to say that it's part of Neumann's DNA.
*The M49V is delivered with the high-pass filter set to 30Hz and the pattern switching function enabled by default. Changing the internal switch settings is not done by the user, but by Neumann Service. Changes to the settings should be made through a Neumann sales partner or dealer.
Features: A meticulously refined reproduction of the legendary M 49. An outstanding vocal microphone, perfectly suited to both male and female voices. A versatile microphone ideal for all types of instruments. Classic tube circuitry with output transformer. Infinitely variable polar pattern control via remote switch. Reproduced from the original specifications based on archived recordings. New pattern switching unit automatically adapts to the mains voltage. Handmade in Germany, including soldering. Comes in a vintage case, handmade in Germany.
