Description
Description
A ribbon microphone jointly developed by Rupert Neve and SE Electronics.
The discrete circuitry, transformers, and design ideas came from Neve, while the capsule and chassis were designed by SE Electronics.
Neve's views on the importance of HF (including above the audible range) in the audio path are well known. He explains that even though ultrasonic harmonics are inaudible, they affect how we hear the audible range.
Although ribbons have a high-frequency roll-off, they have the advantage of having a shallower roll-off curve than condensers, and we felt that if the frequency response of the ribbon itself could be widened, Neve's circuit would be effective.
From the beginning, Neve's design had the goal of bringing out the HF details that tend to be weak in ribbon microphones. The corrugated aluminum ribbon is flat up to around 7kHz even before the active stage, and the passive output stage alone is sufficient, but the signal is further conditioned by two transformers and a circuit topology similar to that of the Rupert Neve Designs 5088 console.
The warm and smooth low end, the deep and airy mids, and the crisp and impactful high end contain the important inaudible harmonic content that is lost with conventional microphones.
A microphone crafted by a master of outboard equipment. Mr. Neve's philosophy lives on here too.
[Staff check!]
The sound is convincing! You can hear it at a glance: a smooth sound that you can't get with a condenser microphone. A smooth extension of the high frequencies that you can't get with a regular ribbon or dynamic microphone. A rich and natural mid-low range.
For vocals, the RNR-1 can be used seamlessly in place of a standard condenser microphone, and the expansive, dense sound of the RNR-1 brings even more brilliance to the vocal expression.
Furthermore, with acoustic instruments, the natural and flat characteristics of ribbon microphones make it easier to capture the sweet spot that captures the sound of the instrument in a wider range of positions than with ordinary recording microphones, and they also produce a sound with more presence than ordinary ribbon microphones.
The sound that comes from this extremely quiet, low-noise environment is the ideal envisioned by Rupert Neve.
It expressively reproduces all sources, including vocals, wind instruments, string instruments, etc.
