Description
A must-see for fans! Akito Tokunaga's latest signature model is now in stock!
This special bomber bass was created in response to Tokunaga's requests, including changing the body shape and selecting "buckeye burl" for the body top.
Phoenix, a brand from TUNE, a long-established Japanese component workshop, specializes in custom-ordered models with even more sophisticated specifications. This special bomber bass is based on the brand's J-type model, the BOMBERBASS, and incorporates the P-style 5-string PJ pickups, reflecting the requests of bassist Akito Tokunaga, who is a frequent customer of ours.
This bass has an appealing, solid tone that firmly supports his powerful vocals and produces his trademark powerful slaps.
The body top and headstock, which form the face of this instrument, are made of rare buckeye burl, a material different from that used in the J-type signature model. The transparent translucent red color of the grain creates a beautiful undulating pattern reminiscent of a volcanic eruption or magma.
The body back is made of carefully selected alder, and the fingerboard is made of deep black ebony. It's not hard to imagine that it must have cost a considerable amount of money to produce such jet black ebony for a bass fingerboard the size of one.
A major feature of this model is its slightly more compact body design compared to the standard P-type. While maintaining a traditional design, the horn on the bass side is streamlined, the tip of the horn on the treble side is rounded, and the cut width of both horns is wide, allowing smooth access to the 22nd fret.
The combination of Phoenix P5 & J5 pickups and a CLE-1α preamp not only responds well to touch, but also produces a clear, powerful bass tone that sounds like it's coming from a tube amplifier, with a solid mid-low range sound that will blend seamlessly into an ensemble, making it a tone that fits smoothly not only with rock but also with vocals.
Of course, it also produces punch and a solid, thick sound for powerful slaps and detailed fusion slap phrases. Even with fingerpicking, it retains the bass's firmness while producing a smoothly responsive tone, making it a bass that's easy to use regardless of playing style. The particularly bold sound of thumbing, and the thick, undulating tone that seems to be boosted with the controls at hand, are the true joys of this bass.
This instrument is designed to be great for powerful drumming with a large form, or to provide the backbone of an ensemble. It's a powerful model that will firmly support Tokunaga's bass lines, who loves to sing. We hope you enjoy its sound.
