This product is the mk2 of Fostex's flagship RP headphones, featuring premium-grade, fully-driven planar diaphragm RP drivers developed in-house. The diaphragm's movement is optimized, primarily through air damping control inside the driver, resulting in outstanding playback capabilities. Furthermore, connectors are used that facilitate easy re-cabling, and each headphone is carefully assembled in a domestic factory. The beautiful indigo color and texture of the wood grain of the housing, hand-dyed by skilled Awa indigo artisans, combines with the faithful expression of the premium RP drivers' overwhelming resolution to provide a superb audio experience that combines traditional craftsmanship and acoustic technology.
*RP and RP technology are proprietary Fostex technologies that move the entire surface of the flat diaphragm in a regular phase (Regular Phase).


Premium RP driver mk2 optimizes diaphragm movement with air damping control
The Premium RP Driver, developed with the largest diaphragm in the history of RP Technology's fully-driven planar diaphragm drivers, has been continuously refined since 1974. The mk2 model further optimizes diaphragm movement through airflow adjustments using damping material and new ear pads, centered on air damping control inside the driver. This achieves ideal diaphragm amplitude, especially in the low frequencies. In addition to the sharp response, high sensitivity, smooth frequency response, and excellent transient characteristics achieved by suppressing unnecessary resonance thanks to the Premium RP Driver's large diaphragm and magnetic circuit, the mk2 model also delivers a clearer sound image from the deep bass to the high frequencies, with a more faithful and clearly positioned sound field than ever before.

●Newly adopted ear pads with a new shape and internal two-layer structure for the mk2
The mk2's newly designed ear pads have an inclined surface that contacts the face for optimal comfort. The internal low-resilience urethane has a two-layer structure, with a softer type on the outside and a more elastic type on the inside to fit the shape of your face. In addition, the use of silk protein synthetic leather that is three times more durable than previous models ensures a comfortable fit even during long listening sessions.

2-pole 3.5mm connector and high-purity OFC unbalanced Y cable included
The mk2 model employs a 2-pole 3.5 mm connector, improving compatibility with re-cabling and enhancing versatility. The internal wiring and included unbalanced cable are made of 7N (99.99999%) high-purity OFC (Oxygen-Free Copper) cable, which minimizes impurities and enhances transmission capacity. A separately sold 4.4 mm balanced cable (ET-TH4.4BL2Y) is also available.

●Solid hard maple housing finished with Awa indigo, a traditional Japanese dye. Collaborating with Awa indigo artisans, we developed Awa indigo from Tokushima Prefecture, a dye long prized for its high-quality dyeing properties, to dye the solid hard maple housing, known for its use in guitars. Each piece is meticulously dyed by skilled artisans to achieve a deep indigo hue that beautifully showcases the hard maple's unique grain. Dyeing with "hon-ai," a dye made solely from plant-based indigo, takes advantage of hard maple's rigidity and heavy specific gravity, preventing unnecessary coloration, resulting in a solid, deep bass range and clear, sustained highs. The open-back TH1100RPmk2 headphones feature dual aluminum-etched parts on the housing opening, and meticulous fine-tuning of the aperture ratio and each internal component ensures a natural sound field with high resolution and ease of listening fatigue, befitting the premium qualities of an open-back RP.

★About dyeing with Awa indigo★
Among Japan's historic natural indigo dyes, known for their beautiful dyes in Edo-period ukiyo-e prints, Tokushima's Awa indigo has long been known nationwide as an essential dye for high-end textiles. However, dyeing wood using traditional methods was difficult, and much trial and error was required to adjust the dye concentration, fermentation process, and soil preparation. The TH1000RPmk2/TH1100RPmk2 housings are dyed using "hon-ai" dye made entirely from natural Japanese knotweed. The dye is applied and dried by hand over many days. During this process, changes in temperature and humidity affect the drying of the dye, and the condition of each housing's wood grain affects the conditions under which the fine pigment particles penetrate the wood's structure. This results in a housing with a truly innovative color, where the smooth grain of the maple beautifully stands out while the deep blue of hon-ai is preserved, resulting in a unique texture that varies from side to side on each product.

Newly adopted lightweight magnesium alloy mechanical parts: Magnesium alloy is newly adopted for mechanical parts such as the housing base plate and hanger, making it 20% lighter than aluminum, and rubber gaskets are used in the rotating mechanism to minimize unnecessary vibration. Improvements have been made with a design philosophy that pays attention to the details of each part, further improving the usability.
