Description

28x32 input/output Thunderbolt 4/USB 4 audio interface with DSP mixing, effects, and network connectivity!

The 848 offers cutting-edge Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 universal connectivity for Mac, PC, and iOS. When connected to a host device via the included 40 Gbps USB-C cable, the 848 automatically adjusts for a full-speed connection up to 40 Gbps, while also being backwards compatible with Thunderbolt 3, USB3, and USB2 host connections. The Thunderbolt and USB4 connections deliver an astounding 256 channels (128 inputs, 128 outputs) of computer I/O at sampling rates up to 96 kHz.

Superior analog design delivers superior audio quality. The industry-renowned ESS Technology Sabre32 DAC delivers 125dB of dynamic range and extremely low THD+N harmonic distortion. Built on decades of digital audio engineering expertise, the 848 delivers professional sound in any environment.

◆60-Channel Audio I/O for Simultaneous Processing Connect all your studio gear. The 848's 28 inputs and 32 outputs, for a total of 60 channels, let you connect a variety of devices, including monitor speakers, headphones, microphones, guitars, synthesizers, keyboards, drum machines, external processors, and optical expansion units.

◆Ultra-low latency performance
With optimized drivers for both Mac and PC environments, MOTU's legendary ultra-low latency performance is maintained. When using a high-performance DAW like Digital Performer, the 848 achieves an astounding round-trip latency (RTL) of approximately 1.8 milliseconds over Thunderbolt and USB at 96 kHz with a 32-sample host buffer.

◆Easy plug-and-play operation and huge bandwidth
The 848 lets you daisy-chain up to six Thunderbolt devices. All connections to the host computer deliver ultra-fast 40Gbps bandwidth, easily merging hundreds of audio channels, 8K video, and terabytes of hard drive storage. A Thunderbolt 4 USB-C cable (approximately 2 meters long) is included.

Clear and transparent microphone preamp and high-impedance instrument input
With -114 dB THD+N, 118 dB dynamic range, and -129 dBu EIN performance, you'll capture your recordings in the most faithful and natural way possible. Each mic channel features individual preamp gain, pad, and 48V phantom power, allowing remote control from a computer or iOS device. Each combo jack provides an alternate 1/4-inch high-impedance TS guitar input for DI tracking or re-amping.

◆Add more return line inputs if needed. Want to use compressors or other external equipment? Mic inputs 3 and 4 each have a dedicated analog send/return loop, allowing for external processing of mono or stereo mic channels via a balanced connection. If nothing is connected to a mic input, its return acts as an additional line input with the same signal characteristics as all other line inputs.

◆ Control up to 12 analog output channels simultaneously
Control your 5.1ch or 7.1.4ch Atmos surround speaker system with a single fader. The monitor group function lets you freely select which analog outputs to control.

◆Control Room
Control your recording session with A/B/C speaker pair selection and the front-panel talkback switch. Connect three sets of monitor speakers and instantly hear your mix on your preferred monitors with the front-panel A/B/C select buttons.

◆64-channel mixing (32-bit floating-point precision)
The 848 features a built-in 64-channel digital mixer, designed similarly to a large mixing console. The 64 input channels can accept signals from anywhere: the physical inputs of the 848 interface itself, audio channels from your computer's host software, audio network streams, and even the mixer outputs. The mixer provides 26 aux buses, plus main, reverb, monitor, and solo buses. All input channels and output buses are equipped with four-band double-precision parametric EQ and compressors. Additionally, input channels feature a high-pass filter and gate. This provides high-performance and transparent mixing and monitor mixes.

◆Patchbay: Using point-to-point routing and intuitive virtual patch cords, you can easily route any source signal to any destination. Sources include the interface's analog or digital inputs, computer channels, mixer bus outputs, and audio network streams from other devices on the network. Output destinations include interface outputs, host software inputs, mixer inputs, and any device (or computer) on the network. You can also split a single source (or stereo pair) to an unlimited number of output destinations.

Matrix Routing, Splits & Patching: For complex workflows involving large-scale routing and splits, the routing grid provides a bird's-eye view of all 848 device connections. Quickly manage hundreds of audio channels at a glance. See your signal with convenient activity meters. Customize your routing environment by showing/hiding audio banks. Display destinations on the right or left side of the grid for maximum usability.

Flexible System Expansion Audio networking technology has matured, offering endless possibilities. The 848 features an integrated AVB switch with two Gigabit Ethernet ports, allowing you to daisy-chain multiple 848 or 16A units using standard network cables. Alternatively, you can connect an external AVB switch to expand your network and connect multiple interfaces and computers. Ultra-low network latency is achieved, even over long cable distances (hundreds of meters). Each 848 can send and receive 128 audio channels to and from the network. You can stream hundreds of audio channels between devices and computers on the network. The 848 is also compatible with previous generations of MOTU AVB devices.

◆Control everything from your laptop, tablet, or smartphone
CueMix Pro is a custom app developed to control all aspects of the 848, including device settings, signal routing, 64-channel mixing, and effects. Compatible with macOS, Windows, and iOS, CueMix Pro can run on multiple devices simultaneously, providing wireless access to the 848 over Wi-Fi. As a 1722.1 controller, CueMix Pro can also be used to access AVB-related settings on third-party devices on the network.

Optical I/O and Optical Expansion
Two optical banks provide 16 channels of ADAT optical at 48 kHz, 8 channels of S/MUX optical I/O at 96 kHz, and optional stereo TOSLink up to 96 kHz, allowing you to extend the 848 with other optical equipment or use it as an optical expander.

DC-Coupled TRS Outputs All analog outputs support DC coupling, meaning you can use the 848 to control and sequence modular synthesizers using control voltages (CV) from your host DAW.

Loopback and Live Streaming Easily return as many computer audio output channels as you need from your browser or app back to your computer. Mix microphone and 848 guitar inputs in your host software for live streaming or podcasting.

◆Start creating music right away with the included DAW, virtual instruments, and loops
Connect the 848 to your Mac or PC and start creating with the included PerformerLite production software.
In addition to production software, it also includes hundreds of loops, one-shots, and sounds from industry leaders Big Fish Audio, Lucidsamples, and Loopmasters (available for download after registration).
