Description

The birth of a new standard.
"Revival 4000 Signature Analogue Channel Strip"
(SSL Revival 4000)

Mono analog channel strip, classic Jensen transformer SSL 4000 E mic preamp, 4000 B Series de-esser, Ultimate 4000 E Series dynamics section, classic 4-band SSL EQ

■Revival4000: A channel strip that recreates SSL's iconic SL4000 mixing console

The Revival 4000 is SSL's high performance, all-analog channel strip.
It provides the sound of the early 1980s SL 4000 series consoles.
This sound became the de facto standard in recording studios and helped shape the music of iconic artists such as Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Bryan Adams, Pink Floyd, Prince, U2, Metallica, and many more.
Inheriting the B and E Series circuitry of the 4000 consoles, the Revival 4000 delivers the distinctive tone and sonic versatility that are fundamental to the SSL legacy.
The Revival 4000 is a signature analog channel strip that packs the exceptional sound and outstanding features of the legendary 4000 series into a compact 1U format.

It features the classic E-Series JT-115K-E Jensen transformer-balanced microphone preamp, a B-Series de-esser, an E-Series discrete Class A VCA dynamics section, and the iconic 4-band parametric E-Series EQ with high-pass/low-pass filters and switchable brown/black knobs.
Offering flexible routing, balanced insert points and sidechain linking, the Revival 4000 is a legacy channel strip that brings SSL's analogue heritage into the modern studio.

Key Features: Classic Jensen transformer-equipped SSL 4000 E microphone preamp
Featuring a JT-115K-E Jensen transformer-balanced preamp, the Revival 4000 brings richness and clarity to your recordings.
The circuitry incorporates the exact same Jensen components found in the original 4000E Series channel strips.

・4000 B Series De-Esser
The Revival 4000's de-esser inherits the original compressor/limiter design from the iconic 4000 B console, offering a 10:1 ratio and a 7 kHz sidechain filter.
This configuration allows for wideband compression that is precisely triggered by sibilants, making it ideal for taming hard vocals, drums, and other high-pressure sources.
Its musicality is further enhanced by a circuit design that borrows from the legendary SSL Bus Compressor, adding clarity and unique character to any signal.

Ultimate 4000 E Series Dynamics Section
A faithful, fully featured reproduction of the iconic dynamics section that defined the sound of the 1980s.
The compressor/gate design is faithful to the original E Series channel strips, meticulously recreating the circuitry and components that gave them their legendary character.
It features true RMS sidechain detection and an all-discrete gain reduction stage, identical to the discrete Class A VCA chips used in the original consoles.

Flexible controls allow you to bypass the soft-knee curve, activate fast attack mode, and select logarithmic compression or linear release curves. Combined, these features expand your selection of tone-shaping options, recreating the tones of many classic albums created with E-Series consoles.

- Classic 4-band SSL EQ
The renowned 4-band parametric EQ that shaped modern music. The Revival 4000 features two iconic EQ options: the classic 4000 E Brown Knob (02) and the legendary Black Knob (242).

The Brown Knob EQ features two fully parametric mid bands with SSL's signature symmetrical design, ensuring consistent musical intonation around the center frequency, regardless of gain or frequency settings.
The high and low bands are 6dB/octave shelving filters with the option to switch to a fixed Q bell response.
This EQ became a staple in recording and mixing in the early '80s.

The 242 EQ circuit was developed in 1983 in collaboration with the legendary George Martin for the first SSL console installed at AIR Studios.
Known as the Black Knob EQ, this EQ introduced a wider cut and boost range (±18 dB vs. ±15 dB), refined control response, and a steeper 18 dB/octave high-pass filter for tighter low-end control and tonal flexibility.

Flexible processing and routing
The Revival 4000 features a dedicated balanced insert point, allowing you to seamlessly integrate external outboard equipment into your signal path.
It also features a dedicated external sidechain (key) input, flexible processing order and sidechain linking, making it ideal for pairing two Revival4000s together for a stereo setup.

・What is the SSL SL4000 series console?
When the SSL SL4000 series consoles were released in 1976, they revolutionized music production, setting new standards that would shape musical history.
It all started with a rare SL 4000 B console installed at London's Townhouse Studios.
The 4000 B was used to produce groundbreaking hits such as Peter Gabriel's "Intruder" and Phil Collins' gated drum sensation "In the Air Tonight."
Released in 1979, the 4000 E was installed in legendary studios such as Abbey Road, Electric Lady and Hit Factory.
He empowered engineers like Hugh Padgham (David Bowie, Paul McCartney, The Police), Chris and Tom Lord-Alge (James Brown, The Rolling Stones, Santana) and Andy Wallace (Prince, Bruce Springsteen, Nirvana) to shape their sound.
The SL4000 series console is SSL's signature mixing console, which has become the standard in professional recording studios and elevated SSL to a global audio equipment brand.
SL4000 Series consoles continue to be used in studios and music production today.
