[A special edition of the REDD.47, known as the Holy Grail]
The legendary EMI REDD.51 vacuum tube console underpinned The Beatles' sound from their early days through the White Album. The REDD.47 mic preamp module used in this console was developed as a versatile amplifier, an improved version of the Telefunken V72S amplifier module, and was used on all stages of the console's mic inputs, line inputs, sends, and monitors. With its big sound image and punchy, aggressive sound, it became known among engineers as the Holy Grail.
Chandler Limited spent many years studying the original blueprints and production notes, as well as the characteristics and circuit configuration of the historic console, and after working in collaboration with Abbey Road Studios, completed the REDD.47 vacuum tube microphone preamplifier, which was released in 2015.
Now in 2025, Chandler Limited and Abbey Road Studios have announced the release of the REDD.47 Special Edition Pre Amp, a new product of their partnership.
●How do we recreate the vintage sound of EMI Studios' original equipment?
The answer is a meticulous blend of original vintage components and Wade Goake's expert design techniques. Years of searching and collecting authentic components has resulted in the REDD.47 Special Edition Pre Amp.
By incorporating rare vintage parts, we have been able to authentically reproduce the unique sound that led the way in an era.
It is also designed to withstand long-term use, making it attractive not only for its exceptional sound but also as a rare and valuable product that can be used for a long time.
●"Super Vintage" uses vintage parts
The REDD.47 Special Edition Pre Amp is the first in Chandler Limited's new "Super Vintage" line. Future products will also feature vintage parts and will display the "Super Vintage" label on the back panel.
This special edition features NOS (New Old Stock) and vintage parts from the 1960s and 1970s.
Main resistors:
1. Piher resistors (used in EMI, Neve, Marshall amplifiers, etc.)
2. ISKRA resistors (used in early Marshall and British amplifiers)
3. German-made Beyschlag and ERO/Roederstein resistors (used by many British and European manufacturers at the time)
★Main vintage capacitors:
1. Siemens and WIMA (used for vintage EMI and Neve gear)
2. German-made ERO and Roederstein (used in many European products)
3. Mullard "Tropical Fish" capacitors, known for their superior sound quality
The REDD.47 Special Edition also features a new layout that recreates the look and feel of the original REDD Cassette. It also features an illuminated EMI logo, embodying the atmosphere of classic EMI consoles. While retaining the REDD.47 circuit configuration, it adds Input Sensitivity, Line Input, and Bass Lift sections derived from the REDD.51 console.
