I was looking for a sound and feel similar to my beloved 1968 Plexi. It has a completely natural decay and none of the weird fizzy artifacts. It's very dynamic and responds well to the guitar's volume control and pick dynamics. It has super low noise and killer sustain without a lot of distortion or fuzz, making it the best sounding and most versatile.
When I began designing the Sixty 8 Drive, I had a long list of goals I wanted to achieve. I wanted an amp that recreated the sound and feel of my favorite 1968 Plexi 12000 series. I wanted an amp that would allow backline players to enjoy the sound of an F-style clean tone combined with an M-style crunch channel. I wanted an amp with ultra-low noise, perfectly natural sustain and decay, and absolutely no weird noises. It also needed to be versatile enough to cover a wide range of tones, from clean tones to heavy overdrive. And it needed to be durable enough to withstand the test of time on the road.
So, here comes the Sixty 8. It's very dynamic and responds very well to your guitar's volume control and picking strength.
It provides rich sustain without the need for large amounts of distortion or fuzz. The Gain control also functions as a shelving EQ, slightly attenuating low frequencies as you increase the gain, keeping the low end tight. The Bass control is pre-clipping and is designed to offset the Gain control's shelving filter. You can add low frequencies cut by the Gain control, so you can adjust it to suit your rig.
It also simulates channel jumps and bridges on a real amp, allowing you to mix in as much of the "normal" channel as you like if you want. It's very crisp and responsive, and can get a bit janky, especially with the treble turned up, making it great for rhythm or hybrid rhythm/lead styles.
