The "Mike Matthews' RED ARMY OVERDRIVE" was created in 1992 when Electro Harmonix founder Mike Matthews moved to Russia and launched a new brand called "SOVTEK." The following year, in 1993, the graphic design of the casing was changed and it was released as the "Electro Harmonix/SOVTEK Big Muff π," marking the revival of the "Big Muff π" in Russia.
This model features a gray and blue back case and an anodized aluminum top board featuring silver and blue graphics, and has been nicknamed "Civil War" after the colors of military uniforms worn during the American Civil War.
This is a unit with a green painted back case. The finish on the top board has aged over time, giving it an antique feel. The control knobs, housing screws, and battery box cover have been replaced. One rubber foot is missing.
It is equipped with four KT3102E transistors. The roaring, ferocious sound has been carried over from the days of the USA-made pedal, and while the gain is a little more subdued than before, it still has a wide range of tones, from thick low frequencies to tricky synth-like sounds.
