Description
Description
Founder Dave Brown has been in Kansas City for many years, repairing vintage amps, setting up guitars, and creating custom pedals, earning him the trust of many players. This brand was born from his desire to create high-quality, durable, and reliable guitar products for active musicians.
Protein was developed in collaboration with guitarist/producer Adam Sniegowski with the aim of creating a "dual overdrive that sounds great with any amp."
The Blue Side with its blue LED is apparently based on the "classic OD used by John Mayer on his Continuum album," and judging from the blue LED and tone, it appears to be based on a Marshall/Blues Beaker pedal.
In recent years, pedals such as the JHS/Morning Glory and MXRxAnalogMan/DukeOfTone have become popular, but compared to those pedals, this pedal has a slightly stronger bite, and the distortion of the wound strings has a pleasant sound.
The Green Side with its green LED is "inspired by classic Nashville overdrive."
When you think of a green OD, you inevitably think of a TS, but the website says that it has been used on the pedalboards of session greats from Tim Pierce to Jerry McPherson, and is likely based on the Nobels/ODR-1.
Although it is not that well known in Japan, it is used by many professional blues guitarists, and is not a distortion pedal that is difficult to use and only suitable for advanced players, but rather a model that produces a comfortable sound even for beginners. It is based on pedals that have a good reputation overseas, including the Vemuram/Shanks/ODS-1.
The Green Side itself reduces distortion while minimizing midrange loss and tightening the low-end contours.
There is a similar BB-type 2-in-1 pedal called the JHS Double Barrel, but in comparison, the Double Barrel has a routing/connection order switch, while this one only goes from Green to Blue.
Also, when both are turned on at the same time, the Protein gives the impression of more distortion, and it is possible to drive it to the point where it feels like a JCM900 (although not high gain).
