Description
The Cestus started out as a simple clean boost pedal, but was discontinued some time ago. When I rebuilt the SusMaryOsep! for RJ Ronquillo, the first thing he requested was a treble booster. After completing that circuit, I decided to re-release the Cestus as that treble booster.
This new version of the Cestus uses silicon mil-spec NOS 2N2222A transistors instead of germanium transistors, which allows for the consistency and availability needed to manufacture these products. The switch to silicon gives the treble boost a unique grit and texture. I was surprised at how well it worked with even a slightly cleaner guitar amp.
The switch on the front of the Cestus is a 3-way voice toggle, allowing you to vary your tone from a classic/thin boost tone to a mid-forward tone to a bass-heavy tone. This convenient toggle allows you to tailor the voicing to your setup or cover a wider range of tones. By following the Cestus with the right amp or dirt pedal, you can cover a full range of lead and rhythm tones. The SET control sets the overall output. The wide output range allows for settings ranging from subtle re-voicing of the signal to amp destruction when dimmed. The artwork is inspired by the original amp top box that inspired this unit.
