Noise picked up by guitar and bass pickups is a problem that has troubled musicians and recording/PA engineers for many years. FREE THE TONE has received many inquiries about how to reduce noise picked up by pickups, especially on stage. While there are methods for manually muting the sound using a volume pedal or switcher to make the noise less noticeable, we wondered if there was a way to do this automatically. And the result was "INTEGRATED GATE."

"INTEGRATED GATE" is an effects unit that automatically controls the output level to make noise less noticeable. To solve the unnatural sound at the edge of the sound, a problem that conventional noise gates have, it is equipped with a signal monitoring function that constantly monitors the input signal using the CPU, and controls the output level optimally while monitoring the waveform of the input signal, such as peaks and decays. "INTEGRATED GATE" has two modes.

Noise Reduction Mode: Noise picked up by the pickup becomes more noticeable as the string vibrations decay and the volume decreases. In Noise Reduction Mode, when the volume falls below the set volume (THRESHOLD value), the noise reduction circuit begins to gradually reduce the volume to make the noise less noticeable. The signal monitoring function provides optimal volume control and achieves natural attenuation. If a signal exceeding the set value is input, the noise reduction circuit immediately passes the signal unchanged.

Noise Gate Mode: In Noise Gate mode, the unit instantly mutes the sound when the volume drops below a set threshold. This is useful when you want to instantly stop a sound while playing. It can be used as a crisp gate effect. To preserve the sound quality of your guitar or bass, the audio signal passes through a fully analog circuit. You'll experience a fundamental difference in sound quality compared to conventional noise reduction and noise gates. This unit is equipped with a MIDI IN terminal, allowing you to control the effect on/off via MIDI. This is an extremely convenient feature when using this unit in conjunction with an audio routing controller such as the ARC-4. Since there's no need to connect it to an effects loop, it can be incorporated into your pedalboard without major wiring changes.
