Description
Description
"BLACK SMOKER" is a handmade brand from BLACK CLOUD, a workshop in Nagano Prefecture, a mecca for musical instrument manufacturing where many brands are located. This brand has already gained popularity among many professional musicians for its sophisticated and high-quality sound, playability, and looks. It's a notable brand created by three people: CEO Kuroiwa, who has been involved in the design and manufacturing of numerous manufacturers and models, young builder Yanagisawa, who collaborates with him, and builder Itasaka, who has worked for a long-established Japanese brand.
This limited-edition PJ5 model, based on the PJ5, boasts consistently high cost performance and consistently popular performance since the brand's inception. Its simple, classic specifications allow you to fully appreciate the brand's true value, while adding custom accents to enhance its practicality and individuality. The classic alder body and maple neck, combined with a hard pau ferro fingerboard, enhance the distinctive color and clear attack of the bass pickup, which can often be muted. The neck shape, while slimmer for playability, maintains the core of the sound, while the smooth setup allows for effortless playing. This bass truly showcases the instrument's exceptional craftsmanship. The pickups feature a PJ layout, including a newly designed P-type pickup. This model was designed for our regular bassist, Masahiro Goto. Compared to the standard P-type, it offers a more noiseless yet balanced sound for a more practical sound. The powerful and resilient P-type sound is complemented by the J-type's distinct tone, creating a truly usable sound that incorporates the nuances of both the P-type and the PJ-type, while also offering a new texture. The 2-volume, 2-tone stack configuration allows for a wide range of sound creation. The slightly longer 34.5-inch (876mm) neck offers improved intonation and separation at the lower frets, while providing a new setting that minimizes fingering discomfort. The 21-fret, five-tuner setup, a standard feature in the Standard Series, is still present, providing a rich resonance without excessive peaking, making this a versatile instrument suitable for any style of performance, regardless of genre or sound, depending on the settings and playing style.
While the TradMaster models that have dominated in recent years feature a lacquer and aged finish, this standard model uses a urethane finish. While the build quality itself is identical, it offers excellent value for money. In terms of looks, the first-ever "Hazel Brown Metallic" finish is combined with the familiar (and rare among other brands) black anodized pickguard and black parts. The result is a tasteful finish that combines individuality with a high-quality presence. This bass doesn't assert its individuality through a treble attack or excessive power, but rather has a "clear" sound that stands out when blended with other parts in an ensemble. This is the kind of model the modern scene truly demands.
This highly acclaimed and popular standard model is a unique model with a twist that is typical of a show model. Professionals recognize this bass for both its playability and sound, and its quality has already made a big name for itself in the scene.
