★Live Active Ribbon Microphone

◎Live edition that effectively suppresses harsh high frequencies from guitars, brass, and cymbals on stage ◎-15dB pad switch for loud sources

The R-122MK2L is a tour-grade model of the Royer R-122MK2 active ribbon microphone, ideal for live performances. The R-122MK2L's output is on par with that of a typical condenser microphone, while retaining the warmth and faithful character of a ribbon microphone.
The R-122MK2L delivers smooth, natural response while effectively suppressing the harsh high frequencies often heard on stage in guitars, brass, and cymbals. Turn up the faders on your PA console and you'll see the R-122MK2L faithfully reproduce your source. The peaky high end that has plagued house and monitor engineers for years is no longer a concern.

The Pad
The R-122MK2L is equipped with a -15dB pad switch. This pad switch is located before the microphone's electronic circuitry, and turning it on prevents distortion and preamplifier overload caused by excessive input.

The Bass Cut
The bass cut switch applies 6dB per octave filtering at 100Hz, effectively reducing excess low-frequency components caused by the proximity effect of the microphone. This is extremely useful for close-micing electric guitars, etc.

All of the R-122MK2L's circuits are hand-assembled at the Royer Labs factory in Burbank, California. The use of Royer Labs' original toroidal transformer produces exceptional transient response that sets it apart from traditional ribbon microphones, making it an ideal choice for overheads, percussion, and any acoustic instrument.

The R-122MK2L transmits signals with minimal RF interference and signal loss, allowing you to use long cables on stage without damaging ribbons due to phantom power.

The R-122MK2L's ribbon is 4 microns thick compared to the 2.5 microns used in the R-122MK2. This increases durability and intentionally reduces the high-end response that tends to roll off during live performances. This smooth frequency response allows for less equalization required than typical condenser or dynamic microphones.

●Figure-8's On Stage
The R-122MK2L's directivity is a figure-8 pattern, which is most useful on stage. Side rejection at the null point is very strong. Simply point the microphone ears toward the problem source and bleed will virtually disappear. Null points are also located above and below the microphone. For example, if a monitor is located behind the microphone, you can adjust its position to null the monitor output away from the microphone pickup point.

●Patented Offset Ribbon Technology
Royer's patented offset ribbon transducer is a unique system that positions the ribbon element closer to the front of the microphone (logo side). This placement creates space for the ribbon to vibrate within the magnetic field, maintaining a wide frequency response even when recording in high sound pressure (high SPL) environments. It's an essential element of the magic of Royer R Series microphones.
