The Gibson LG-2 first appeared in 1942 during the Banner era, when the Banner logo was featured on the headstock. Its rich sound, unexpected from its small body, quickly made it a beloved model. Initially, the LG-2 was released with a mahogany back and sides and a red spruce top, but due to wartime material shortages, substitute materials were often used. At that time, models with maple backs and sides, as well as LG-2s with mahogany tops, were also produced. Now, Gibson is releasing the LG-2 All-Mahogany Faded, a modern reinterpretation of the vintage all-mahogany model.

The LG-2 All-Mahogany Faded is constructed using solid mahogany from the back and sides to the soundboard. The mahogany top is reinforced with traditional scalloped X-bracing, and the body features simple black binding on the top and back. The round-profile mahogany neck is set to the body with a compound dovetail joint. The neck is fitted with a rosewood fingerboard without binding. It is made with 20 frets and features elegant and simple mother-of-pearl dot inlays. The bridge is made of rosewood and is a rectangular bridge with a gently sloping design. The bridge groove is a closed-slot type for use with a piezo pickup. It features a bone saddle and TUSQ(R) bridge pins. Grover(R) strap tuners (3-in-line white button specification) provide stable tuning and, along with the teardrop-shaped pickguard, enhance the vintage model's appeal.

The LG-2 All-Mahogany Faded's all-mahogany body produces a warmer, rounder sound compared to guitars of the same size with spruce tops, making it ideal for folk, blues, and fingerstyle playing. Its smaller body size also makes it easier to hold than larger acoustic guitars. Furthermore, to meet the needs of modern performers and recording guitarists, the LG-2 All-Mahogany Faded comes factory-equipped with an LR Baggs™ VTC undersaddle transducer and built-in preamp. The LR Baggs VTC system features volume and tone controls located inside the soundhole, allowing for quick and easy operation by the performer while remaining virtually invisible to the audience.
