Highly recommended, high-quality used items!
This Gibson Custom Shop Murphy Lab 1963 SG Special Resue, featuring two rare P-90 pickups that combine both sharpness and fullness, is a highly recommended, high-quality used item that has just arrived! Manufactured in 2025, this guitar boasts a stunningly aged Classic White finish and an exceptional character!

Established in 1993, the Gibson Custom Shop is dedicated to creating the ultimate electric guitars and basses through long-cultivated high-level manufacturing techniques, an insatiable spirit of inquiry, and carefully selected materials. Even today, the Custom Shop lineup, crafted using traditional handcrafting methods and thoroughly researched vintage knowledge, boasts unparalleled craftsmanship and will become the ultimate instrument to endlessly ignite the inspiration within each player.

~ About Murphy Lab ~
Murphy Lab, a new lab located within the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, specializes in guitar aging (a process that replicates the aged appearance and playability of vintage guitars) using the latest technology based on scientific verification.

Tom Murphy, a founding member of the Gibson Custom Shop and project leader for the Historic Collection, has since made a name for himself with aging techniques that bring the look and feel of vintage guitars to new instruments. Backed by Tom's passion for vintage guitars and deep knowledge, his skills beautifully recreate the natural lacquer cracks and wear from playing on Gibson guitars.

Tom Murphy and Gibson scientifically analyzed the nitrocellulose lacquer used in 1950s and 1960s guitars, which develop cracks known as weather checking over time. They unraveled the process of this change and, through extensive testing with prototypes of various models, developed a lacquer process that reproduces the natural weather checking seen in vintage guitars.

The Murphy Lab was conceived when Tom Murphy led the Gibson Custom Shop team in testing every body shape, finish, and aging level based on prototypes. As a result, it was established within the Gibson Custom Shop to pursue unprecedented realism and attention to detail in aging.

Tom Murphy's presence and his artistic creations have played a significant role in Gibson's history, and his legacy will continue forever as the Murphy Lab.

This particular instrument is a 1963 SG Special Reissue with the "Ultra Light Aged" finish, the least damaged condition among the four aging levels. The meticulously applied, artistic aging process results in unique crack patterns that differ from one instrument to another, making each one truly one-of-a-kind!
The fingerboard edges are rolled, providing an excellent grip that players will appreciate.

1963 was the year Gibson's contract with Les Paul ended, and the "Les Paul" model was officially changed to the "SG." This affected the engravings on the headstock and truss rod cover of the Standard and Junior models, but the Special model, which originally only had the Gibson logo, was unaffected in this respect. The bridge is a simple wrap-around type with a pitch correction feature, commonly known as the Lightning Bar type.

The basic specifications are based on the latest Historic Spec. For the pickups, which are crucial to the sound, Gibson has adopted the P-90, a single-coil pickup that is extremely popular.
While maintaining a distinct tone, the combination of its robust sound and the SG's thin body creates a lighter, more agile sound than the Les Paul Special, giving it that unmistakable SG resonance. Furthermore, the wraparound bridge allows for a more direct transmission of string vibrations to the body, a unique and appealing feature of this design.

The SG model is by no means a particularly versatile guitar, but if you find the right one for you, it will become a beloved companion for many years to come! I, Mukai, also have a personal attachment to this model!
Its lightweight body will allow you to perform graceful steps on stage as if you were soaring through the sky! It's also a perfect match for the Japanese physique! And the sound that comes from its thin body, full of stickiness and sharpness, gives you an emotional tone that's perfect for rock and blues! While a Les Paul might be too thick and clash with vocals, the SG offers just the right range that's easy to use in a band ensemble!

We have a great used guitar in stock! While we cannot guarantee the condition of any later scratches, dents, cracks, or paint peeling due to the Ultra Light Aged treatment, this guitar is in excellent condition and highly recommended!
Although there is some discoloration, it is a lovely Classic White color.

This guitar has been serviced and cleaned at our shop, so it's ready to use immediately! There are some scratches on the pickguard, but these do not affect playability or have any problems.

The frets are in good working order and have almost all of their life remaining. The nut is also in good working order and the truss rod can be adjusted normally.

We have also checked the electrical system, so there are no problems with its operation.

The weight is approximately 3.07 kg. It's lightweight and has a well-balanced design that makes it easy to use.

Accessories include the original black hard case, keys, certificate of authenticity, pre-pack checklist, and Japanese instruction manual.

This is a must-have for rock music lovers of all ages!
