Gibson VINTAGE S-1 '76 Lustrous Sunburst

Alongside the "Marauder," the 'S-1' is known as one of Gibson's most experimental models from the Norlin era. Bill Lawrence, who was brought into the pickup development department in the late 1960s, was involved in its development. It is known as a distinctive Gibson model from the 1970s, featuring Lawrence's design for three single-coil pickups and custom wiring, and is a vintage model that has been gaining attention in recent years.

[Body]
The overall weight is approximately 3.6 kg. The body is made of maple with contoured top and back. The glossy, beautiful sunburst color is the most expensive of the color variations for this model. The pickguard has also been replaced with one made of the same material due to a change in the switch pattern. Weather checking at the material seams, dents and scratches, belt buckle marks on the back of the body, and peeling and tarnishing of the metal parts are visible, giving it the feel of a vintage guitar.

The neck, featuring a Flying V-style headstock, is made of maple with a bolt-on (detachable) joint. The fingerboard is made of rosewood. The headstock top shows weather checking at the scarf joint seam, paint wear from use on the back of the neck, signs of tuner replacement, faded serial number, and tarnished metal parts, giving it a vintage feel similar to the body. The tuners were once replaced with Schaller-style tuners and are now Japanese-made with the "GIBSON DELUXE" logo. The frets and nut are slightly low, but have been leveled and adjusted, resulting in good playability. The nut width is 42.0mm. The neck shape is relatively clean compared to other Gibson guitars. The truss rod cover has also been replaced.

[Electrical System]
The S-1's unique toggle switch + rotary switch configuration has been changed to a more user-friendly 5-way switch. Currently, the controls consist of a 5-way pickup selector, master volume, and master tone. It is equipped with three "High frequency" pickups developed by Bill Lawrence specifically for the S-1 model. The potentiometers and capacitors have been replaced.

Based on the bright tone characteristic of a maple body/neck construction, it delivers a well-defined sound thanks to its three single-coil pickups. The pickup mix is ​​well-suited for funky, sharp cutting, offering a clean tone from the neck pickup and a crisp, sharp drive sound from the bridge pickup. Its robust and solid sound character sets it apart from typical F-series single-coil pickups.
