GRETSCH VINTAGE 6122 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman '67

Founded in 1883, Gretsch has supplied a wide range of musical instruments over the years. In the 1950s, they began developing electric guitars, and continue to produce attractive guitars to this day.

The '6122 Country Gentleman' was released in 1958 alongside the Tennessean as the top model in the Chet Atkins signature series. Based on a thin 2-inch body, a 17-inch body shape with simulated f-holes for a closed soundhole body, multi-ply body binding, and gold hardware, it has undergone changes such as the transition from a single cutaway to a double cutaway and other specification modifications, and remains one of Gretsch's most popular models to this day.

The total weight is approximately 3.8 kg. The body is made of maple with a hollow construction. This period features a 17-inch double-cutaway shape, a closed soundhole using simulated f-holes, and a single mute. The body color is mahogany brown, which highlights the maple wood grain. The original pickguard has been replaced due to deterioration. There is some weather checking at the material seams commensurate with its age, age-related deterioration of the body binding, and tarnishing of the gold hardware, but considering its age, it is in remarkably good condition. The sponge in the mute has also been replaced.

The neck is made of maple, and the fingerboard is made of ebony. It features a luxurious design with a plate bearing the model name on the headstock. There is some weather checking at the material boundaries, age-related deterioration of the binding, and tarnishing of the metal parts, but it remains in good condition, similar to the body. The tuners function perfectly with no issues with winding. There is some wear on the frets and nut, but there are no extreme issues such as dead spots. The nut width is 42.5mm. It features a relatively solid neck shape.

[Electrical System]
The familiar controls from the Chet Atkins series—master volume, individual pickup volume controls, standby switch, pickup selector switch, and tone switch—are all in their original condition, including the internal components. It is equipped with two "Filter 'Tron" pickups.

With its closed soundhole structure and thin maple hollow body, this guitar boasts a warm, full tone, and the excellent responsiveness that comes from the quality of the materials. When fingerpicking, it produces a clear, articulate sound, while chord work offers a deep, resonant sound with a boxy feel. It's highly compatible with country and rockabilly, as well as the British beat/Merseybeat sounds that were at their peak at the time, making it a guitar that lets you fully experience the presence unique to vintage Gretsch.
