Description
A used James Tyler guitar, the king of component guitars, and one of his signature models! This is the popular Burning Water color that's synonymous with Tyler guitars! It's estimated to have been made in the early 2000s. A rare find, as Jim Tyler himself forgot to write the serial number on the side of the headstock!
(This is the one with "270" written on both the neck pocket and the body pocket.)
The James Tyler Studio Elite Burning Water, a signature model! The Burning Water finish gives it an irresistible, fierce look! This is a masterpiece that lets you enjoy the thick sound that is so characteristic of Tyler! The stage-ready coloring and the rich, flat harmonic tone of the classic mahogany body, when combined with the latest equipment, create a magic that will captivate listeners! Of course, you can also fully enjoy a raw, wild rock sound with a simple setup!
This instrument lacks a spec sheet and a bare arm contour, so our assessment is based on the wood grain visible through the neck pocket, the pore structure, and the overall resonance. We are confident that this is a modified mauyo wood instrument. It has a balanced weight of approximately 3.47 kg, producing a robust sound!
As mentioned earlier, James Tyler Guitars serial numbers are usually inscribed on the right side of the headstock, but it is presumed that James Tyler himself forgot to inscribe the serial number on this particular guitar. From my personal experience, I have seen two new James Tyler Guitars guitars with the same serial number arrive in the mid-2000s, so I believe it is highly likely that this was also an oversight. The number 270 is inscribed on both the neck pocket and the body pocket. While three-digit serial numbers are common in the 90s, this particular guitar is presumed to be from 2002-2003, given that it has a Wilkinson VG-300 bridge and DiMarzio DP410 Virtual Vintage pickups (which were commonly selected around 2002-2003) in the front and middle positions. At the time, Jim often selected the classic Seymour Duncan Classic Stax with a TB-4 pickup, but he also frequently chose DiMarzio pickups because of their "open, clear, and articulate" sound! While the DiMarzio DP-193 was often selected for the bridge position back then, this particular guitar features a Seymour Duncan TB-4.
Equipped with a Demeter-type mid-boost, this guitar offers a wide range of sound shaping possibilities! It delivers the direct sound of compact series connections, and its compatibility with state-of-the-art rack equipment is another hallmark of Tyler guitars!
The immense popularity of James Tyler Guitars stems from the fact that they directly reflect the opinions of professional musicians who use them in real-world settings! This guitar offers excellent playability, is easy to play in any position, and allows you to fully experience the Tyler magic of a wild, untamed sound!
As mentioned earlier, mahogany has been selected for the body wood! You can enjoy a smooth, harmonically rich sound and tone! The internal cavity of the James Tyler Guitars USA is a so-called "lunchbox" type, with the front and center sections custom-ordered to accommodate a front humbucker. We speculate that this also contributes to the deep, harmonically rich hollow sound and tone that is unique to James Tyler guitars. This harmonically rich sound blends well into ensembles and is compatible with rack systems, creating a magical tone that makes you feel like you're listening to a Tyler no matter where you are!
The neck, featuring an impressive headstock, is a maple neck with a dense Indian rosewood fingerboard that promises smooth, responsive fingering! It's equipped with 6100-type jumbo frets. The neck also features a moderate side scalloping, making it comfortable to grip and highly playable!
The tuning pegs are Sperzel locking pegs, and the bridge is the Wilkinson VG-300, which was a staple bridge for James Tyler until the mid-2000s, as mentioned earlier! You can enjoy smooth tremolo action and a bell-like tone!
While Wilkinson VG-300 and VS-100 guitars typically have a mechanism where you insert the tremolo arm and rotate it to lock it in place, James Tyler has deliberately removed the part that secures the arm on the underside of the bridge and instead set it up so that the arm is secured using a set screw at the arm insertion point on the top of the bridge!
We've just received a recommended player's condition used guitar! It's estimated to be from 2002-2003.
There are minor scratches, dents, pick scratches on the pickguard, scratches on the corners around the headstock, tarnishing on the pole pieces and metal parts throughout, but none of these affect playability. We have performed a full maintenance and cleaning at our shop, so it is in recommended condition and ready to use! The back panel and tremolo arm are missing.
The frets have been leveled and the guitar is ready to use. Approximately 85% of the fret life remains. The nut is also in good working order. The truss rod can be adjusted normally without any problems.
The electrical system has also been fully checked, so there are no problems with its operation.
The weight is approximately 3.47 kg. It offers a balance that makes it easy to use while producing a solid, focused sound.
Burning is Tyler's signature color. This lure really shines in water!
The only included accessory is the original hard case.
Key, arm, and back panel are not included.
