Description
Description
This time, we have an ES-335TD in walnut color from around 1975, during the mahogany neck era. It's an interesting instrument that has been modified with a stop tailpiece.
【body】
The overall weight is approximately 3.45 kg. The body is made of maple. It features the semi-hollow construction familiar to Gibson semi-acoustic guitars, with a center block and a width of about 16 inches. The change from the original trapeze tailpiece to a stop tailpiece is now a standard feature, aiming for a more rock-oriented tone. Walnut brown, one of the standard colors of this period, highlights the beautiful grain of the maple wood. There is some weather checking at the joints of the materials, scratches, and tarnishing on the metal parts, but it can be said to be in relatively good condition.
【neck】
The neck is made of 3-piece mahogany. The fingerboard is made of rosewood. There is repair work on the right side of the headstock veneer, weather checking mainly around the joints of the materials, some minor dents, paint peeling mainly on the sides of the fingerboard and behind the 13th fret, and tarnishing on the metal parts, giving it the feel of a vintage instrument. The tuners have been replaced with Grover 135N tuners, and they function well with little variation in winding. The frets and nut have been replaced, and the playability is good. The nut width is 39.9mm. It can be said that the neck shape is relatively sturdy.
[Electrical System]
The controls are the standard 3-way pickup selector, 2 volume controls, and 2 tone controls. It retains two authentic stamped numbered humbucker pickups from the same period. The pickups and control components are in their original condition.
The stop tailpiece design provides a tight, responsive attack, and the slightly powerful humbucker output, typical of the 1970s, combines to create a rich sound. The neck position offers a warm tone, while the bridge position is characterized by a clear, punchy tone. In clean tones, it produces a bright, airy sound with a clear outline, while in overdrive sounds, it delivers a powerful tone with a sense of stickiness and body, making it an appealing sound that is both easy to use and has presence.
