Description

High quality second hand recommended item!
We've got a great pre-owned Murphy Lab 1964 ES-335 Reissue Ultra Light Aged, featuring realistic aging by the much-talked-about Murphy Lab! This 2022 model features a slightly thinner neck, small block inlays, a small pickguard, and a windowed center block. The nylon saddles provide a sweet feel, too! This guitar stands out in its sophisticated 60s Cherry color!

Murphy Lab, a new lab located within the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, specializes in guitar aging (a process that recreates the aging look and feel of vintage guitars) using the latest scientifically-based technology.

Tom Murphy, a founding member of the Gibson Custom Shop and project leader of the Historic Collection, has since become known for his aging technique, which brings a vintage look and feel to new guitars. Backed by his passion and deep knowledge of vintage guitars, Tom's techniques allow him to perfectly replicate the natural lacquer cracks and wear that come with playing a Gibson guitar.

Tom Murphy and Gibson scientifically analyzed the nitrocellulose lacquers of the 1950s and 1960s, which develop cracks known as weatherchecking over time. They uncovered the process and, through extensive testing on prototypes of various models, developed a lacquer process that reproduces the natural weatherchecking of vintage guitars.

The idea for Murphy Lab was born when Tom Murphy and his team at the Gibson Custom Shop began testing prototypes to explore different body shapes, finishes and aging levels. As a result, Murphy Lab was established within the Gibson Custom Shop to pursue unprecedented realism and attention to detail in aging.

Tom Murphy and his artistic creations have played an important role in Gibson's history and will continue to live on forever as Murphy Lab.

This is a 1964 ES-335 Reissue that has been given the "Ultra Light Aged" treatment, which is the least severe aging condition of the four-level aging system. The 1964 ES-335 Reissue features a slightly thinner neck than the '59 ES-335, small block inlays, a smaller pickguard, and a windowed center block.
Don't miss the sweet touch of the nylon saddle!
The horn cutaway on the body is slim, with a body thickness of approximately 41mm, bringing it closer to the original details. This body thickness fits comfortably to the body, allowing you to enjoy playing while feeling the instrument breathe better.

The Ultra Light Aged model features minimal weathering and dents, giving it the natural appearance of aging, as if it had been carefully stored in a case for many years. The fingerboard edges are rolled for excellent grip, a finish that players will appreciate.

The basic specs are the latest Historic Spec, with unpotted Custombucker Alnico III pickups, an updated assembly, and True Historic parts. The sharp response that follows your picking strokes will have you hooked on the magical Gibson tone the moment you plug your guitar into your amp!

Not only does it offer a clear tone even when the tone is turned down, but the controllable assembly maintains a moderate brightness even when the volume is turned down, making it a great match for modern use! This is an ambitious work from the Gibson Custom Shop, which continues to evolve by returning to its roots! Enjoy the amazing tone you can only get from a Custom Shop guitar, and the impressive aging process created by Murphy Lab!
