Description
Description
This is a completely original, extremely high-quality, handcrafted active ribbon microphone with specifications that are compatible with modern recording environments. It is the active version of the VL37, which Michael Grace of GRACE design has praised as "the most sophisticated and great-sounding ribbon microphone."
The superior active circuitry delivers even lower noise and high output on par with condenser microphones, taking the already beautiful sound quality of the VL37 to an even higher level. Whether recording classical music or delicate acoustic instruments, the VL37A's perfect tonal balance makes it an all-purpose choice, capturing the resonance and resonance of the instrument with an incredibly natural response.
Key Features: Thorough quality control through a fully made-to-order production system. Innovative design, handmade ribbon microphone of unique quality. Excellent expressiveness, natural, and artistic sound quality. Extremely low noise thanks to an active design powered by 48V phantom power (approximately 5dB quieter than the VL37).
Active design achieves high output comparable to that of a condenser microphone. Well-balanced, flat frequency response. Completely flat low frequencies down to 20Hz (-0.43dB) and high frequencies above 25kHz. Handcrafted in-house, the amorphous-core toroidal transformer delivers extremely low noise and distortion. Sophisticated ribbon motor design ensures the shortest front-to-back path, and the mounting structure prioritizes sound quality. Perfectly fine-tuned to the minute, every microphone delivers identical performance. Samar Audio Design's proprietary ribbon corrugation process eliminates the awkward handling and storage challenges of traditional ribbon microphones. High SPL design accommodates high-volume guitar cabinets and drums. High-performance built-in pop filter. Perfectly symmetrical bidirectional polar pattern. Includes a dedicated microphone holder that absorbs vibrations for pure sound. Includes a dedicated wooden microphone case. Made in the U.S.A.
●Advantages of an innovative designThe secret to Samar Audio Design's designs, which offer a sense of superiority in all areas, including wide-range characteristics, high SPL, low noise, and low distortion, lies in the microphone parts produced in their own factory. While many microphone manufacturers use general-purpose audio transformers and low-priced ribbon microphones use the same mass-produced ribbon motors, Samar Audio Design operates a strict management system and has its own dedicated machines to design and produce custom-designed audio transformers and ribbon motors, as well as each individual housing using CNC machines and even every single screw.
The amorphous core toroidal transformers boast ultimate precision, and are able to thoroughly minimize individual quality and performance variations compared to famous brand transformers. Dr. Hoeksman personally manages the production and meticulously crafts the toroidal transformers, ensuring such high performance and precision.
Samar Audio Design's ribbon motor design achieves a significantly shorter front-to-back path than conventional ribbon microphones. The motor is designed as an extension of the main body, creating a single, thoughtful structure. This unique approach is only possible with modern, sophisticated CNC machines. The incredibly smooth, precision structure, from the body to the top and bottom caps, seamlessly integrates the entire microphone, ensuring precise, precise conversion of air vibrations into electrical signals. This superior housing design not only contributes to a beautiful appearance, but also to the pure sound quality. This is why Dr. Fuchsman has refined the design to an almost extraordinary level, paying meticulous attention to even the smallest of screws.
Dr. Hoeksman also personally takes the time to make the final adjustments and tuning of each microphone. His attention to craftsmanship is impeccable. Every batch of microphones he makes has the exact same characteristics, without any discrepancies. Such high-precision quality control is simply impossible with mass-produced parts.
That's why Samar Audio Design microphones are handmade and cannot be mass-produced; each one is made to order and perfectly crafted. Everything from the transformers and ribbons to the housings and screws is handmade, and the effort and concentration required to complete the product is extraordinary. The moment you pick up the microphone, you can tell that it is a work of art, with an astonishingly meticulous polishing of both the exterior and interior.
●VL37A ribbon microphone sound quality
The Samar Audio Design VL37A boasts high-frequency response extending to over 25 kHz. It also boasts clear, natural low frequencies flat down to 20 Hz. Ribbon microphones have no restrictions on diaphragm movement, resulting in a natural sound without any sense of pressure, but they tend to have a narrow frequency range. Because ribbon microphones tend to roll off high frequencies and exaggerate low frequencies, they are typically used to take advantage of these characteristics.
The VL37A maintains the natural, expansive sound that's a major benefit of using a ribbon microphone, while capturing a wide frequency range on par with a condenser microphone and a well-balanced tone. It's designed for high SPL and low noise, with a sense of spaciousness in every aspect. It took Dr. Mark Hoeksman eight years of research to achieve this sound.
The VL37A from Samar Audio Design is a high-quality ribbon microphone that meets all of the requirements of today's recording environments, which demand ever-higher definition, including high-resolution audio, as well as sound quality that naturally conveys the beauty of live instruments and voices.
