★EMI/Abbey Road Studios official preamp built-in vacuum tube microphone

This vacuum tube condenser microphone, designed to produce the most beautiful vintage sound, was jointly developed by EMI/Abbey Road Studios in the UK and Chandler Limited in the US, which has an equipment development partnership with the studio.

By uniquely combining a traditional large-diaphragm high-end condenser microphone with the REDD.47 vacuum tube microphone preamp card from the studio's signature vintage console, we have achieved a beautiful, rich sound and tone that is completely different from the Neumann U-type clones that are prevalent around the world, and that firmly inherits the legend and history of Abbey Road Studios/EMI.

●A sound that inherits the legend of Abbey Road Studios.

Chandler Limited's chief designer, Wade Goeke, and the engineers at Abbey Road Studios spent a great deal of time searching for a microphone that would represent the legendary Abbey Road Studios and represent their reference sound.

By uniquely combining a traditional large-diaphragm vacuum tube condenser microphone with the REDD.47 microphone preamp from the studio's signature console, we have achieved a beautiful, rich sound and tone that is completely different from the Neumann U-type clones that are prevalent around the world, and that firmly inherits the legend and history of Abbey Road Studios/EMI.

The built-in REDD.47 microphone preamp amplifies the weak signal immediately after the diaphragm without routing it anywhere, allowing for a pure signal to be recorded without any loss, compared to using a microphone cable and amplifying it at a distance with a microphone amplifier. The REDD MICROPHONE's sound is characterized by a full-bodied sound that accurately conveys the artist's breath and a smooth, detailed top end.It is already used daily at Abbey Road Studios as the "first call" microphone for recordings by major artists.

●Includes the same built-in tube preamp found in the legendary REDD console.

The legendary REDD vacuum tube console, used on The Beatles albums, owes its sound quality to the REDD.47 preamp, an upgraded version of the Telefunken V72S amplifier module.

The REDD MICROPHONE features a REDD.47 preamp card built right into the microphone body! The pre-gain can be adjusted in nine steps from +4 to +33 dB, and the DRIVE mode adds even more musical color and texture.

Because the weak signal immediately after the diaphragm can be amplified without any routing, there is no loss and the pure signal can be recorded as is, compared to using a microphone cable to amplify the signal at a distance using a microphone amplifier.

By setting the gain of the built-in REDD.47 microphone preamp to minimum, you can use it via other microphone preamps as usual, and the sound of this microphone will still be more than beautiful enough.

Experience the luxurious high-end sound.

●Top-class beautiful design, sound and function.

The REDD MICROPHONE's sound has been carefully modified to allow it to be used with a variety of sound sources, including vocals, strings, piano, drums, acoustic guitar, electric guitar and bass, regardless of genre.

All parts, including the diaphragm, are of the highest quality and each and every one is extremely luxurious, with no compromises made to live up to the name of Abbey Road Studios, the world's most famous recording studio.

The microphone itself is equipped with a directional switch (unidirectional or omnidirectional) and a PAD switch (-10dB).The built-in REDD.47 preamp's variable gain switch and TYPE (Normal, Drive) switch allow you to adjust the sound character.

●Power supply unit.

The power supply unit included with the REDD MICROPHONE system features a microphone input for connecting the included MOGAMI 7-pin microphone cable, and a line output (XLR). The variable OUTPUT knob adjusts the final output level of the REDD.47 preamp and also doubles as a pull switch to activate the Low-Contour (low-cut) function.

Development Comments

"Developing a microphone bearing the name of the legendary EMI/Abbey Road Studios has been a dream of ours for many years, and this project has finally made that dream come true. Wade Gauke of Chandler Limited has incorporated the classic EMI REDD.47 preamp circuit into the microphone, an idea so valuable that it has completely changed the way microphones sound. Abbey Road's skilled engineers spent a long time carefully developing and tuning a variety of different ideas and microphone capsule designs. We, the engineers at Abbey Road Studios, were able to experience firsthand the process and moment when a truly vibrant sound that can convey 'true beauty' is born."

- Mirek Stiles (Abbey Road Studios)

"The recording sessions for Sting were primarily done using three classic vintage microphones and the REDD MICROPHONE. In most cases, the sound of the REDD MICROPHONE shone brightly on acoustic guitar, percussion, vocals, and symphonic orchestra. When recording the Stradivarius cello, I believe we were able to capture a special sound that is personally memorable to me."

- Peter Cobbin (Abbey Road Studios Chief Engineer)

"My research into microphone design began six years ago. Even back then, I had been toying with the idea of integrating the microphone itself with the microphone preamplifier. However, in developing a microphone bearing the historic EMI emblem, I felt it was appropriate to incorporate the circuitry developed by EMI into the microphone. Many historic microphones have become famous through their use at Abbey Road Studios. With the REDD MICROPHOPNE, I repeatedly compared the sound with that of many genuine vintage microphones used by artists like The Beatles and Pink Floyd, and aimed to surpass those sounds, and I was able to achieve that."

- Wade Goeke (Chandler Limited Chief Designer)

●User comments

"Comparing the U47, C12 and REDD MICROPHONE, I was surprised at how much clearer the sound was. Compared to the REDD MICROPHONE, the U47 sounds a little dull, and the C12 sounds bland and thin. The REDD MICROPHONE has both body and clarity."

- Peter Cobbin( Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Sting, Ed Sheeran, Kanye West, U2)

"I love the sound, it's simply amazing! It's warm and smooth. I ended up selling my mint condition 1951 U47 to a friend for about $20,000 (because I got this mic). This REDD MICROPHONE gives you the same vibe and quality as the vintage REDD. And the built-in REDD.47 preamp really brings out the harmonic content. Chandler gear is amazing!"

- Michael Wagener( Mtley Cre, Overkill, Accept, Great White, Poison, Alice Cooper, Extreme, Megadeth, Janet Jackson, Ozzy Osbourne, Dokken, Metallica, White Lion, Skid Row )
