Description
Description
The Fender Custom Shop was established in 1987 to create the highest quality Fender guitars using carefully selected wood from Fender's inventory, utilizing time-honored handcrafting and advanced manufacturing techniques. This section inherits the traditions and techniques of the long-established Fender company, and the lineup, assembled by a limited number of staff and featuring one-of-a-kind models like the Master Builder Series, is truly top-notch. Many of the tools used in the production are the same ones used back then. The instruments, crafted with the meticulous attention to detail by staff members who are deeply versed in Fender guitar know-how, boast the finest quality and sound to satisfy any player, becoming reliable companions that will last a lifetime.
This 2020 model is based on the 1960 model, which saw the introduction of rosewood fingerboards. The body is crafted from alder, specially selected for Custom Shop production, and features a Closet Classic finish with a thin layer of nitrocellulose lacquer. Experience a vibrant, full-bodied tone not found in NOS models, while also experiencing a vintage-like sound in mint condition, aged to perfection.
The quarter-sawn maple neck offers excellent neck quality, providing rigidity and rich resonance. The fingerboard is made of birdseye maple, a rare find on a '60 model. The fingerboard features a 7.25-9.5R compound radius, a rare find on vintage guitars. The frets are medium jumbo, offering modern playability and a wide tuning range.
The pickups are a hand-wound humbucker in the neck position, crafted by Fender Custom Shop master craftsman Josefina Campos, and hand-wound Texas Specials in the middle and bridge positions. While eye-catching, the humbucker offers both clarity and warmth, and the Texas Specials are a wonderful match, boasting a bold and powerful sound even among Fender's single-coil pickups. The dramatic sound of this layout truly captures the music.
As for the condition of this particular guitar, it was originally finished in Closet Classic, making it difficult to determine if it has any recent damage. However, there are some minor dents, about 70% of the frets remain, and the electrical system and playing performance are in perfect condition. There are some slight stand marks on two sides of the lower headstock. With a powerful sound that's clearly noticeable even when played live, high standards for material selection, a wide range of specs, and a wide color lineup, Fender Custom Shop is the perfect place to get your hands on one now!
