Description

★The Story of Harrison and Compression
In the field of audio engineering, Harrison Audio founder Dave Harrison is internationally renowned as a pioneer in the development of music production technology. Ironically, Harrison himself was initially skeptical of compressors, a view shared by his friend, legendary music producer and engineer Bruce Swedien. Both believed that music should be faithfully captured without interference. However, the need for compressors arose from demands from broadcast engineers of the time for tools to control dynamics and prevent clipping. To meet this demand, Harrison Audio embarked on the development of highly effective compressors. Their transparent "leveling" capabilities, achieved with only a few dB of gain reduction, have become essential in music production, particularly for delicately smoothing signals from instruments with wide dynamic ranges, such as vocals and guitars. Over time, this compressor's ability to "dig in" became apparent, and when higher levels of gain reduction were applied, it transformed into a vibe compressor. Dave Harrison's initial skepticism gave birth to a tool that not only met the demands of the broadcast market, but also became a trusted tool in the music production world.
Like the 32c+ mic preamp and MR3eq equalizer, the compressor is also part of the distinctive Harrison sound.

Legendary Harrison analog console sound
Harrison consoles have helped create some of the most acclaimed and influential music in history. Iconic artists such as Michael Jackson, ABBA, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Donald Fagan, and many more have relied on Harrison production tools to create multi-platinum albums. Harrison's latest 500 Series modules deliver the sounds and features that engineers like Bruce Swedien, Roger Nichols, and Reinhold Mack trusted to create timeless music that continues to shine today.

■Comp Design
Comp 500 Series modules are based on a classic "feed-forward" design, utilizing the THAT 2180 VCA chip for exceptional analog performance. The compressor attack is program-dependent, adapting to the input signal and providing the optimal attack time depending on the source material. The release time is continuously variable. These parameters allow the Comp module to transform from a transparent leveler to a highly saturated, vibe-compressor, adding character and excitement to a wide range of sources.

■Harrison's secret sauce
The Comp module is an incredibly flexible dynamics processor. It can go from a transparent "leveler" on guitars and vocals, applying 2-3dB of gain reduction with a 1:2 ratio and fast release. On drums and bass, it can be used as a vibe compressor with a combination of ratio and slow release. The Comp 500 Series module can be your secret "sauce" in your music production.
