This is an active DI
The Telefunken TDA-1 (single channel) and TDA-2 (dual channel) direct boxes are new active FET designs that combine classic circuitry with modern, top-quality components to deliver natural tone with rich character.
The TDA circuitry uses high-quality transformers and Class A FET circuits to perfectly balance clean, high-headroom with warm, saturated sound.
Central to the design is a custom output transformer made by OEP/Carnhill in the UK.
The circuit board is 100% hand assembled for safety and reliability, and all circuit traces are gold plated for maximum longevity and conductivity.
The frequency response is ±2dB, within the range of 20 Hz - 70kHz, minimizing distortion and noise.
Every unit is individually hand-tuned to minimize distortion.
The high impedance reduces the load on passive pickups. Careful attention to detail and careful selection of every single part has resulted in a high-quality direct box.
The circuitry is housed in a very sturdy extruded aluminium enclosure.
It is designed to be durable and durable enough to be carried around on tour.
Each channel has a -15dB pad switch and a ground lift switch.
The TDA is powered by +48V phantom power, and an LED lights up when powered on.
The TDA-2 is a 2-channel unit, so you can use one TDA-2 with two instruments, whether on stage or in the studio.
Some direct boxes focus on providing sterile, clean gain, but this can often leave your instrument lacking soul and character.
On the other hand, direct boxes that add too much character can exaggerate the low end and distort the high frequencies, resulting in a chunky, ugly sound.
