Description
KG-Prime 21 the spirit
The KG-PRIME is a modified guitar that Japan is proud of, made for Akira Takasaki of LOUDNESS and has been in production for over 30 years since it was first released to the market in 1988.
The guitar has been carefully crafted with many aspects in mind, including a sophisticated and unique body shape, a neck joint that is inserted deeper than the front pickup and has a 3-degree angle, and a VU-shaped neck that provides ideal grip in both low and high positions.
This model is a black colorway, produced after the metallic matte blue finish, and is a favorite on stage with LOUDNESS and ATF (Akira Takasaki and Friends). Like the pearl white, the black colorway was also a colorway used in early PRIME models, but this model isn't just black; upon closer inspection, you'll see that it's dotted with tiny flakes.
It differs significantly from the previous PRIME series in that the body material is not ash, but an alder top/maple back construction. Alder is also used in the red mirror Random Star, so it is a body material that Takasaki is very familiar with, but the maple back construction results in a sound that is completely different from the Random Star. The alder tone is pleasant to the ear and has a unique tenacity in the midrange, and the maple's pleasant attack is just right, giving the impression of a "mellow yet punchy and lively sound."
The neck, which is joined using Killer's unique deep insert method, is made of VU-shaped hard maple, the same as the conventional PRIME, with a figured maple fingerboard, luminescent side position marks, and wheel rods. However, the entire neck, including the fingerboard, is colored with a wood stain, resulting in a more subdued color than the conventional PRIME series, and the paint itself has been changed to an extremely thin coating that allows you to feel the texture of the wood.
Another notable feature is that the frets have been changed from the previous medium jumbo (#214H or Jescar #55090) to the jumbo-sized Jescar #57110.
Of course, the pickup is Takasaki's signature Seymour Duncan THUNDER IN THE EAST, and the direct switch from the KG-PRIME Signature 8118 is also included. The pickup is mounted using a traditional escutcheon mount, rather than a direct mount.
With modified guitars, looks take priority, resulting in models that are difficult to play while sitting down or that are poorly balanced. However, the PRIME series boasts high playability and excellent balance that you wouldn't expect from its aggressive looks. Its wide range and excellent response make it a "first-class" guitar, just as its name suggests. The fact that it has been in production for over 30 years is proof enough of this.
Please pick it up and see its true value!
