★Neumann dummy head, the world standard brand of condenser microphones

The KU 100 dummy head is a binaural stereo microphone that mimics the human head and incorporates a microphone capsule in each ear.
Listening with high-quality headphones gives the illusion of being right there at the acoustic event.
Using the KU 100 dummy head, binaural stereo transports the listener into the scene of the original performance, in contrast to other space-related recording techniques in which the acoustic event is transported to the listener.
Dummy heads are also used in many industrial applications, for example as measurement devices in acoustic research.
The KU 100 can be operated from standard 48 V phantom power, from an external power supply, or from the built-in battery.
At the bottom of the unit are connectors for balanced and unbalanced output signals, as well as switches for different power supply modes.
Inside the head are switches for 10 dB attenuation and a high-pass filter.

■Features◎Dummy head that mimics the head
◎ 2-stage roll-off switch ◎ Diffused-field, flat pressure transducer ◎ 10 dB pre-attenuation with on/off switch ◎ Speaker playback compatibility ◎ Balanced and unbalanced outputs (XLR and BNC)
◎Transformerless circuit

Ideas
The KU 100 dummy head is a replica of a human head with microphones built into each ear.
When a recorded audio signal is reproduced on high-quality headphones, the listener perceives a sound image that is nearly identical to the sound they would have heard at the recording location on a dummy head (head-based stereophony).
When played through speakers, the sound matches that of a traditional stereo microphone placed at the same height, but with the added quality of a distinct sense of spatial depth.

The KU 100 dummy head can also be easily used for creative radio drama productions and music recordings where you want to simultaneously record the room acoustics.
The dummy head also serves as an important tool in maintaining natural sound of all kinds.
Additionally, dummy heads are often used in industrial applications to study and record the effects of noise at various work locations under realistic conditions.

●Electrical characteristics
The KU 100 uses a transformerless circuit, which has the advantages of fast transient response, low self-noise, and high output capability. The usual output transformer has been replaced with an electronic circuit. As with using a traditional transformer, this technique provides excellent common-mode rejection, preventing RF interference that can affect balanced audio signals.
The dummy head has balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (BNC) outputs.

There are three power supplies available:
External P48 phantom power supply, built-in battery, external AC power supply (included with the system)

●Filter and attenuation
A 10 dB switch is located inside the head to attenuate the sensitivity, while a second switch selects the high-pass filter cutoff frequency at linear, 40 Hz or 150 Hz.

●Package contents
The KU 100 comes in a sturdy aluminium carrying case and includes an external power supply unit, a 5-pin XLR cable and an adapter cable that splits the 5-pin XLR output into two 3-pin XLR connectors.
