FAQ

Description

The Les Paul Custom, released in 1954 as a Les Paul model for jazz musicians, boasted the luxurious looks of the high-end archtop guitars of the time. After many twists and turns, it became a staple of the 1970s mainstream hard rock, crossover, and AOR eras, and continues to be the instrument of choice for rock musicians as a mainstay on stage. Just one guitar clearly demonstrates why it remains immensely popular today.

This time, we have a maple neck model from 1978 that captures the atmosphere of that golden age. Considering its age, it is in good condition and highly recommended.

【body】
The overall weight is approximately 4.9 kg. The body is made of a three-piece maple top and a one-piece solid mahogany back. The solid weight provides rich sustain and a powerful low-end that's unique to this Les Paul Custom. The ebony black finish is a classic symbol of this model, giving it a commanding presence on stage. While there is some weather checking, belt buckle marks, paint chipping near the bridge, dents and scratches, and tarnish on the metal parts, the overall impression is solid and the guitar is in good condition considering its age. The bridge and tailpiece have been replaced with later versions of the same specifications.

【neck】
The neck is made of three-piece maple, while the fingerboard is made of precious ebony. The maple neck's fast response and clear sound definition, combined with the ebony fingerboard's unique tightness, ensure it stands out in any band ensemble. The "SECOND" inscription below the serial number on the back of the headstock is a vintage detail that vintage enthusiasts will appreciate. There is weather checking, minor dents, and tarnish on the gold hardware, primarily on the back of the headstock, but this does not affect playability and instead adds a touch of age. The Schaller M6-style tuners with the "GIBSON" logo operate smoothly. There is minimal fret and nut wear, ensuring good playability. The nut width is 43.3mm. The neck profile is relatively thin for a Les Paul model, making it suitable for modern playing styles.

[Electrical system]
The controls are a classic layout: 3-way pickup selector, 2 volume controls, and 2 tone controls. The electrical system, including the pickups, remains the same as it was back then and is in excellent condition. The guitar sounds rich with overtones even when played bare, and when driven through an amp, the supple midrange and long-lasting sustain come to the forefront. The clean sound is lustrous, while the distorted sound is powerful and forward, truly capturing the rock tone of the late 1970s. This guitar truly embodies the rock sound that defined the era.
