Description

High quality second hand recommended item!
This highly-anticipated 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue, crafted with realistic aging techniques by Murphy Lab, is now available in high-quality pre-owned condition! Manufactured in 2022.
The solid plain maple top features the ever-popular Washed Cherry finish, giving it a perfect aged finish with Ultra Light Aging. Don't miss out on this captivating 1958 Les Paul Standard, captivated by its realistic, historically accurate aging.

Tom Murphy and Gibson scientifically analyzed the nitrocellulose lacquers of the 1950s and 1960s, which develop cracks known as weatherchecking over time. They uncovered the process and, through extensive testing on prototypes of various models, developed a lacquer process that reproduces the natural weatherchecking of vintage guitars.
The idea for Murphy Lab was born when Tom Murphy and his team at the Gibson Custom Shop began testing prototypes to explore different body shapes, finishes and aging levels. As a result, Murphy Lab was established within the Gibson Custom Shop to pursue unprecedented realism and attention to detail in aging.
Tom Murphy and his artistic creations have played an important role in Gibson's history and will continue to live on forever as Murphy Lab.
This is a 1958 Les Paul Standard that has been aged in the "Ultra Light Aged" stage, the first of four levels.

After its release in 1951, the Les Paul Standard went through a goldtop period, then adopted a sunburst finish in 1958, and was produced in that form for a short period until 1960. While the 1959 reissue reigned as the flagship model, the 1958 reissue featured a plain maple top. We're sure there are many connoisseurs who prefer the clean, yet sturdy, plain top! The classic, popular color, Washed Cherry, is a perfect match!

The neck features a slightly thicker, 50s Rounded Medium C neck shape, recreating the narrow frets used until mid-1959. The fingerboard edges are rolled for excellent playability! The excellent grip is a finish that players will appreciate.

The Ultra Light Aged model has a natural, minimally damaged appearance, as if it had been carefully stored in a case for many years. It has been treated with gentle weather checking and dents, but while this is the most minor level of aging, there are cracks near the bottom of the body top, cracks around the neck back and joint, and cracks all over the body back, as well as paint chips and peeling paint in small areas, giving it a truly dignified look!

*Please note that with the Murphy Lab series, paint cracks may come off even if you apply tape or blow air forcefully.

The basic specs are the latest Historic Spec, with unpotted Custombucker Alnico III pickups, updated assemblies, and True Historic parts still included.
The Custombucker Alnico III features a vintage tone that is not too heavy and has a slightly mellow feel.
Equipped with a Bumblebee-type paper oil capacitor and a 500K CTS pot that pursues a vintage curve, the amount of change in both volume and tone is gradual when you first turn it down, so you can delicately and freely change the nuances just by using the controls at hand.

This time, we have a recommended high-quality used item in stock! It was manufactured in 2022.
Since it has been aged, it is difficult to see any scratches, dents, cracks, or peeling paint that may have been added later, but it is in good condition and is a recommended item!
We have fully maintained and cleaned the equipment so it is ready to use right away!

The frets have been treated to remove scratches. You can use it right away. Approximately 90% of the frets remain.
The nut is in good condition and can be used as is. The truss rod can be adjusted normally.

It weighs approximately 3.97 kg and is balanced to produce a solid sound.

Accessories include a brown hard case, key, Murphy LAB certificate, cream SW dip, 2022 70th Anniversary SW plate, serialized tag, and serialized Pre-Pack Checklist.

Don't miss this opportunity!

About Murphy Lab
Murphy Lab, a new lab located within the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, specializes in guitar aging (a process that recreates the aging look and feel of vintage guitars) using the latest scientifically-based technology.
Tom Murphy, a founding member of the Gibson Custom Shop and project leader of the Historic Collection, has since developed a technique called aging, which brings a vintage look and feel to new guitars. Backed by his passion and deep knowledge of vintage guitars, Tom's techniques allow him to perfectly replicate the natural lacquer cracks and wear that come with playing a Gibson guitar.
