Description
Grand Slampegg is a tube preamp designed based on the sound of the Ampeg B-15N.
The circuit design is based on the same design as the vintage model, and the vacuum tubes are the same 6SL7s as in the original B-15N, producing the unique warmth and punch that musicians have come to love.
Whether used with bass or guitar, it has ample low frequencies and produces a pleasant saturation that is slightly different from that of a guitar amp.
In addition to the Baxandall/James two-band tonestack (high-pass/low-pass used in high-end stereos) circuit controlled by BASS and TREBLE, it also features an HPF (high-pass filter) switch to control the low frequencies.
Turning the HPF on cuts the low frequencies (attenuating 90Hz by -60dB/octave), resulting in a brighter sound. You can hear a noticeable difference in the sound, especially in the bass, which contains a lot of low frequencies.
Equipped with both an unbalanced 1/4" output and a DI output (XLR), each with independent volume control.
The 1/4" outputs are equipped with an in-line buffer to reduce interference between the two outputs.
The XLR output has independent volume control and ground lift, allowing you to adjust it according to the connected device.
Each output has a source select switch that allows you to choose whether to output the preamplifier signal or the dry signal.
The DI transformer is a custom-made Unagi Magnetics E4305 DI transformer.
Designed to be used in combination with a tube amplifier, its full-range, wide frequency response captures even the subtlest nuances of your playing.
It is compatible with 9V to 12V (600mA) power supplies, and using it at 12V will provide a wider dynamic range.
