Description
LUNA SEA, one of Japan's leading rock bands, has been generating buzz for the impressive lineup of performers at their rock festival, "LUNATIC FEST. 2025," to be held at Makuhari Messe on November 8th and 9th, 2025. "MY WAY -J Autobiography-," to be released on August 12th, is the first full-scale autobiography by J, the band's bassist and active solo artist, in which he shares his life story to date.
Starting with the conclusion of the band's 35th anniversary tour finale, "LUNATIC TOKYO 2025 - Black Suits Only Gig" at the Tokyo Dome in February 2025, this program explores J's childhood, the band's meteoric rise to fame, the crushing setbacks he faced as they achieved their glory, the circumstances surrounding their eventual end, his transformation from bassist to solo artist, and his dual pursuits as both a band member and a solo artist after LUNA SEA's reboot. The program explores J's unique path, unconstrained by convention, and how he rose to become a truly unique figure. It also explores his private life, including his struggles and hardships, and his separation from his parents, offering a glimpse into J's life as a man after leaving his career as a rock artist.
■Author Profile
He made his major label debut as the bassist for LUNA SEA in 1992. In 1997, following LUNA SEA's temporary hiatus, he embarked on a solo career, releasing his first album, "PYROMANIA." After LUNA SEA's demise in 2000, he resumed his solo career in 2001, developing his unique live style with performances including the FIRE WIRE live event, which invited numerous international artists, the first-ever all-standing arena concert at the Nippon Budokan, and the SHIBUYA-AX 5DAYS, a five-day live concert series featuring numerous guest bands. In May 2019, marking the 30th anniversary of LUNA SEA's formation, he announced an endorsement contract with the world-renowned musical instrument manufacturer Fender. In the January 2025 issue of Bass Magazine, he ranked 10th among a list of renowned bassists from around the world in the "100 Greatest Bassists Selected by Professional Bassists" list. He also took first place in a public poll (#GreatestBassist2025). In 2025, he will perform at the Tokyo Dome as the grand finale of LUNA SEA's 35th anniversary tour, demonstrating his undeniable presence as a member of LUNA SEA. He continues to present his unique style as a Japanese rock bassist, active both as a member of LUNA SEA and as a solo artist.

■ A word from the editor
There have been several books about J, including the "J PLAYER'S BOOK 2025" released in February of this year. While these books naturally contain plenty of J's words, I think they also offer a multifaceted analysis of him as a musician, including introductions to the equipment he uses and commentary on his playing. In creating his first full-fledged autobiography, J was conscious of creating a book that would be readable. It's not a data book listing his career to date, nor a tell-all book about what he actually thought at that time. It's a true story that feels like a novel. At the same time, I believe it allows readers to relate to and question their own lives. While the scale and content may vary, we all face various crossroads in life, and what do we rely on to pave our own path? J's path will likely connect with each reader's own MY WAY.
