About the author: Simon Croft is a well-known professional writer on musical instrument topics. He co-founded the musicians' magazine Playmusic and has published several specialist books. As well as being a keen musician himself, he is also trained in the making and repair of brass instruments.

Andy Taylor
He has been building brass instruments since joining Paxman as an apprentice in 1974. Today, as president of Taylor Trumpets, he designs and custom manufactures trumpets, flugelhorns, cornets, and mouthpieces to meet the needs of customers worldwide.

■About the Supervisor●Yagisawa Satoshi
Composer. Graduated from Musashino Academia Musicae and completed the Master's course at the Graduate School of Music. He studied composition with Urata Kenjiro, Hagiwara Hidehiko, and Tanaka Hitoshi, trumpet with Sekine Goji and Tobe Yutaka, and wind band teaching with Sato Masato. His works are widely popular not only in Japan but also in the United States, Europe, and Asia, and he has been invited by educational institutions around the world to guest conduct and give seminars. In Japan, he has been in charge of ceremonial music for the National Athletic Meet, the National Tree-Planting Festival, and the National High School Athletic Meet, as well as judging various competitions, giving lectures, and writing for music magazines. He won the 21st Japan Wind and Percussion Band Academy Awards in the Composition and Arrangement category in 2011, and the JBA Shitaya Encouragement Award in 2011. Official website

■About the translator●Iwai Yuko
He is the director of the English Translation Workshop Tateyokoya. He graduated from the College of Comparative Culture at the University of Tsukuba. His major translations include Dragon Hunter Roy Chapman Andrews' Dinosaur Excavation Diary (Gijutsu Hyoronsha), The Hidden Life of Wolves (Ex-Knowledge), and Play with Your Own Sound! - A Heretical Anti-Method Theory of Performance from a Horn Player of the Berlin Philharmonic (Yamaha Music Entertainment Holdings). He is a member of the Tsukuba Science City Wind Orchestra.
