"BLACK SMOKER" is a handmade brand from BLACK CLOUD, a workshop in Nagano Prefecture, a mecca for musical instrument manufacturing where many brands are located. This brand has already gained popularity among many professional musicians for its sophisticated and high-quality sound, playability, and looks. It's a notable brand created by three people: CEO Kuroiwa, who has been involved in the design and manufacturing of numerous manufacturers and models, young builder Yanagisawa, who collaborates with him, and builder Itasaka, who has worked for a long-established Japanese brand.

Despite being produced in limited quantities, this unique limited edition model has received a great response. It combines the rugged OPB specs of a flat body with a single pickup in a JB shape, and features a 5-string configuration. Its ash body and maple neck/fretboard resemble those of a '50s PB, with a firm grip and a moderately radiused fingerboard for exceptional playability. Above all, its sound strikes an ideal balance: it reproduces the rugged vintage feel of an OPB while also providing enough thickness to fully capture the low B string. The wide dynamic range provided by the original double-piece pickup, which was repeatedly tuned specifically for this model, as well as the precision of the wood and construction, are immediately apparent upon handling. The exquisitely aged lacquer finish, the aged parts modified specifically for this series, along with the pickups, and the vintage-style bridge all contribute greatly to the guitar's appearance and a richer, more impactful sound.

While boasting a vintage-like look, the playability and sound pressure are truly in keeping with the brand's pride, which is truly impressive. A "5-string that combines OPB and JB" is a hybrid, but it's a very difficult concept that's hard to imagine in reality, and it's been realized in a decisive way.
