The ever-evolving Paul Reed Smith for 2024!

The Custom 24 has reigned as a central model in the PRS lineup since its founding in 1985, undergoing numerous minor changes along the way. Its perfected sound and playability have made it a favorite among a wide range of artists. Around 2020, the top coat after body coloring was a gloss lacquer, but this was later changed to an all-lacquer finish. Further upgrades continue to be made to this day.

For this 2024 model, the tuning pegs used in many Core models have been updated to improve sound quality. The new wing buttons, designed with the outstretched wing bird inlay at the 12th fret as a motif, are lighter than the previous metal peg buttons, reducing string vibration loss and producing longer sustain and a more musical sound.

The bridge features the Gen3 Tremolo, which has been used on regular models since the 2017 model year. The PRS Tremolo has always been well-regarded for its ability to maintain tuning stability when using the tremolo arm, but the Gen3 Tremolo further enhances this by cutting grooves into the bridge plate where the saddle grub screws are installed, and by ensuring that the six saddles are fitted very tightly, preventing lateral movement of the saddles and minimizing tuning instability. In addition, the diameter of the bridge mounting screws has been increased, and the saddle height adjustment screws, saddle mounting screws, and the parts of the saddles that make contact with the strings are left unplated, contributing to rich harmonics and sustain.

The pickups featured are the 85/15, which were first introduced in the 30th Anniversary Model. These pickups, bearing the years of the company's founding (1985) and its 30th anniversary (2015), differ slightly from vintage-toned pickups such as the 57/08 and 59/09. Developed with a modern classic character in mind, these pickups offer a rich sound with a wide range from high to low end and a punchy, moderately powerful feel.

Because the pickup's output is lower compared to the HFS & Vintage Bass, subtle picking nuances are faithfully reproduced, creating a pleasant edge in clean to crunch tones, while retaining the characteristic PRS midrange presence—a sound truly suited to the player. Even when heavily distorted with a high-gain amp, the edge remains intact, allowing you to enjoy a superb sound that never gets lost in the mix.

This particular instrument is in excellent condition with minimal signs of use. There are some faint scuffs and scratches on the body, as well as a few tiny, rice-grain-sized scratches that are difficult to capture in photos. The frets are likely as high as when it was new, and there are no issues with playability, including the neck condition, truss rod, or electronics! This is an instrument that you can enjoy for many years to come. Please consider it!
