Founded in Paris, France in 2016, Syos is an innovative mouthpiece manufacturer created by Pauline, an expert in wind instrument acoustics, and Maxime, an expert in auditory perception. "Syos" is an abbreviation of "Shape Your Own Sound," which literally translates to "Create Your Own Sound." The brand name embodies the intention to support players in getting as close as possible to the sound they desire.
The internal shape is a crucial element of a mouthpiece: the shape and length of the baffle, the shape and size of the chamber, the mouthpiece opening, the facing curve, etc. Syos has garnered attention for adjusting these elements with 1/100th of a millimeter precision using a 3D printer, and through this accumulation of research, they have studied the influence of each parameter and compiled the data. They have succeeded in producing mouthpieces that accurately deliver the sound that players desire.
This manufacturer also offers many musician models, but this time we will be testing the three basic models for alto saxophone: "Smorky," "Steady," and "Spark," with saxophonist Junsuke Motomatsu!
Product Information

Syos Smoky
It features a dark, warm sound thanks to its low baffle and large chamber combination. With a sound similar to Paul Desmond's, it's perfect for beautiful jazz ballads

Syos Steady
feature a curved baffle close to a step shape and a large chamber, resulting in a flexible and smooth sound with just the right amount of edge, making them well-balanced mouthpieces. They can be used to play all styles of music, from jazz ballads to rock and funk

Syos Spark
Featuring a step baffle and medium chamber, they produce a very bright, focused, and powerful sound. Ideal for standing out in rock and funk groups. This mouthpiece has a sound style similar to that of David Sanborn

Syos Rubber Ligatures
Made from the same ABS resin as Syos mouthpieces, these ring-shaped ligatures can be used not only with Syos mouthpieces but also with existing rubber mouthpieces

Syos Mouthpiece Caps
These silicone rubber caps protect the mouthpiece and reed tip. They prevent noise even if dropped on the floor during practice or performance. Furthermore, since these caps do not extend to the ligature, they can be used regardless of the ligature design, whether standard, reverse, or leather
